Easy and accurate
Have ordered this meter for myself and friends over the years. It is very dependable and useful if all you want is to measure the moisture of your plants. Only problem was when I left it out in the rain or put it into soil that was hard and it bent..this made it no longer useable, but that was not the meter's fault. Has saved me many times from overwatering plants !

Instant readings, no more guesswork, happy plants
A lot of hard-core plant people dismiss moisture meters in favor of the chopstick method. For those of us who are not experts (yet), this low-priced meter is a great alternative.I've been using mine for a year now and it has tremendously improved my plant game. There is no more guesswork in my watering routine. I test it now and then on plants that I know for sure are either very moist or very dry and it's always accurate.Once you can sense from your plant pot's weight that it's time to water, you won't need the meter as often. Still, it's good to have on hand as a back-up when you're not 100% certain. For example, I have one large ZZ that fools me because it can go literally months between waterings. Without the meter, I surely would have killed it with kindness by now.

how did I not buy this sooner!?
I bought this because I have plans that are all very different requirements and it’s very very hot here in the summer.I had no idea what I was missing. This thing is great. There is no guest work about watering anymore. I can’t tell you how much you need this.

It works just fine!
When my moisture meter came the metal/copper stick was bent, but I straightened it out. (Almost thought I'd have to return it, but I didn't ). I've been using it for my inside plants, and there's nothing hard to figure out. The plants either need watering, or they don't! !I love mine.

What a life saver! Saved my new plant from Root Rot!
I actually saw this on a Youtube video for someone who gives plant tips & tricks and since a few of my new plants weren't looking so hot, I wanted to ensure I wasn't over watering! Works like a dream! Thanks to this handy gadget, I can be more flexible with my watering schedule, and just pop it in the soil if one of my plants looks thirsty! It's also extremely sturdy and the perfect length and thickness! I will also sometimes use it to make holes/break up the soil a little to help give some extra oxygen and it's super sturdy! It's definitely a life saver for new plants, because it's always hard to tell how far down the moisture is, especially on new additions! My fiddle arrived and had some browning on the leaves, come to find out it was way over watered and it's good to know because now I know he needs to be either repotted or NOT watered for quite some time! Thankfully, I can now prevent root rot! Don't hesitate, it takes the guess work out of it!

Wow, bought this thing on a whim, since ...
Wow, bought this thing on a whim, since I was hearing that my potted plants were too watered, and before they were too dry! Anyhow, I had no idea what was going on with these plants until this device showed up. One of the plants uses water quickly and needs more. One is way more wet than I can tell from the top. One goes from too wet for a couple of weeks to suddenly dry. Another plant doesn't even need much. Overall, an essential tool for the home!Read some of the reviews, there are some trolls in here! You put this thing in the soil and it immediately gives a reading, and it changes depending on how deep in the soil you put it. That's it, instant working perfectly. Why would some fake review put this thing in a glass of water and then complain? Weird.

If only Mother Nature worked on the law of averages!
We finished planting last week, very late, but it couldn't be helped. Right in the middle of our usual California summer heat wave. Lasts about 10 days, but temps were all over 100... I should have known that this wasn't going to work. I bought its "twin" nine years ago, and that didn't work either.Placing the probe directly into the root ball should have shown moist even when the plant was in a planter in the sun. Instead, it said "Dry" (bone dry). Moving the probe toward the outside of the 20" planter, it showed "Wet" (really wet). I wiped the probe off each time (as directed, and never placed it in a glass of water (not acceptable as advised). The leaves are drooping on an azalea in the shade. Because the probe said it was dry from top to half way to the bottom, I watered early in the morning. The leaf droop has got to be because of over-watering. We may be able to save the nine plants that are suffering from over-watering, but three are probably beyond hope.Btw, three cacti which should be bone dry and are (just lift from a 3" pot), but the wand says "3 = moist." Can't be. Any water added now just flows right through the hole in the bottom. The plants that we were able to save we thought were dying so we placed them in our "Dead Zone." Three days with no water and salvia and petunias are now in bloom! This tool is of little use and can be a hazard to the health and happiness of both plants and owners. I am not speaking about house plants, i.e., indoors. I'm sure it will be the same. The science behind this $10 tool is simple: water is a conductor of electricity, and the probe measure water content electrically. But how compact the soil is, what potting soil you use, and where in the world you're planting all can cause your meter to have varying degrees of accuracy. So, if you're in Central California, use your finger. If it feels damp or wet, don't water. If it's dry, water in the morning during the summer. And toss out the meter or return it to Amazon. Send it to me: I might start a collection to be donated to The Science Guy whose guesswork fits in nicely...
