How do you use the timer function? Is it possible to set these to turn on by themself at a certain time each day?

No. The timer is a countdown timer. If they are on you can set how long they stay on and they will automatically turn off. There is no “turn on” timer.

How many lights can be controlled by one remote? Ex: if I am using 3 sets for a backdrop, but want to got up on 6 at a time, then add another 6.

This remote control has a range of use and can control all the lights in the range.

Can you use this wireless led lights outdoors?

If you do, I would make sure they are out of the elements. Would be great on a covered patio. But I wouldn't put them where rain, or snow or high heat from the sun can get them. They are battery powered and not waterproof.
