Vergelegen Estate, Premium Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot – South Africa 75cl, deeply coloured with Claret-like aromas of redcurrant, coffee, tobacco and toasty oak. On the palate it is a mid-weight wine with noteworthy richness and a firm spine of harmonious acidity to add to the intense berry and spice flavours. Made from 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec. Vergelegen, meaning 'situated far away' was granted to the Governor of the Cape in 1700. In the making of wine a simple philosophy is followed. There must be harmony between the old and the new. Simplicity is combined with rigorous selection, with infinite attention to detail and craftsmanship. Sourced from north and north-westerly vineyards at Vergelegen, where the granite and shale soils dominate.
