I bought this product to convert my old video tapes (Sony 8mm video tapes and DV tapes). S-Video cable works for image, but sound was not working. So I ended up using composite cable. One thing to note is that you need to edit a configuration file to prevent copy right protection message (even for home videos). I followed an instruction in the Q&A which says:C:\Program Files\ArcSoft\TotalMedia ShowBiz\com.ArcSoft.CaptureModule\Open "CaptureModule.ini" with notepad. Add "ProtectOn=0" under "[CaptureModule]" and save.Then everything worked fine. I converted all my tapes. Hope this review helps your case.

Seems like this product is more like Russian roulette. Sometimes you win and have a working item with all the parts and sometimes you don't.Mine came with the wrong software. Attempts to locate the software were unsuccessful on google. Tried contacting the company using the URL the had in the box... URL not found. Went to the parent URL and filled in a request. However, based on other reviews, I'll likely be sending this back. Since I doubt they will respond.Update: No response. Tried downloading software that I could find, but none worked as it would not recognize the device. No driver and correct software was NOT included. Unable to locate to download. NO response from company. Returning

Worked great, but see other answers in Q&A on how to fix the "copyrighted video" notice that may come up even if you use home-made videos. This will not allow you to continue capturing your video. Once I sorted that out, no issues whatsoever. Now need to practice with the editing software. Instruction book is good and was able to get everything installed in only a few minutes. I did use the CD. I think that there should be a link to download what you need as there are a lot of systems out there now without a CD drive.

Easy to install and use. I tried to use it on my Dell 4600 PC with 2 GB of ram and the video was jerky. When I tried it on my Dell 6600 PC with 4 GB of ram the results were very nice. The product listing says they accept DOA returns only, so make sure your system will support this. It comes with Showbiz software which does everything I need it to and more. The software can be downloaded for free from Arcsoft. To copy from my VCR I also needed an S-Video cable and a male-to-male RCA cable (not included).If you get a Copy Protection error with Showbiz, the fix is as follows:Navigate to:C:\Program Files\ArcSoft\TotalMedia ShowBiz\com.ArcSoft.CaptureModule\Open "CaptureModule.ini" with notepad. Item arrived quickly. Very good instructions etc for how to use it. It works for me, but the main issue I have is after a few minutes of recording, i get a bright white light in the middle of the video....almost like someone shined a flashlight on the screen. the light spots come and go, so if youre looking to record something meaningful, and quality is important, you might want to find another video grabber

The capture cable worked fine. The big plus for me was the ArcSoft ShowBiz software that came with the cable. I was having a problem with my expensive video processing software in producing copyright protection errors that prevented me from capturing my home VHS tapes. I decided to try a different cabling device. I installed the ShowBiz software that came with the cable. ShowBiz gave me the same copyright error, but it gave me instructions to contact the company if home video produced the error. I did and they provided a link that fixed the problem and I was able to capture home video without the annoying false copyright error. A excellent software and cable system and a fantastic price!

It's good for maybe some other VHS players, But on mine it produced grainy color-drained video.

I was about ready to give up on this and return it until I read a random line somewhere in my internet searching about adjusting the tracking. I bought this to transfer home videos on VHS tapes to digital and DVD. I kept getting a blank screen on both a mac and PC and after using 3 different RCA cables. FINALLY I saw somewhere something about tracking and had to adjust the tracking a ton (using the channel buttons on the VCR remote) but it actually ended up pulling the video up and worked! I also found a tip that said to fully fast forward and then fully rewind the VHS before using it and it helps with the tracking. So don't give up on this, it just might take quite a bit of finagling. But for $30, once you figure it out it's definitely worth it!

Costó trabajo ponerlo a funcionar y necesitamos un adaptador de euroconector a componentes por tratarse de un Vídeo VHS antiguo. El software también me despistó un poco al principio, puesto que localicé una aplicación capturadora, pero con esa no lo conseguía y sí pude hacerlo con otra que aparece cuando buscamos en la web del producto.Una vez localizado e instalado todo, el funcionamiento no puede ser más fácil y el resultado es el que estamos buscando: vídeos en digital de las VHS caseras para no perder el material y ahorrar también en espacio de almacenamiento.No sé si es caro porque he visto otras opciones más baratas, pero viendo que conseguimos el objetivo y fue relativamente fácil, nos parece buena inversión.

Au vue de certains commentaires, je n'étais pas sereine quand à la digitalisation de mes vidéos 8mm-hi8. Pour le bon rapport qualité/prix, je me suis lancé dans cet achat et je ne regrette pas ! Plus de 50 vidéos sont à présent sur mon ordinateur. Il y a quelques informations à connaître :- Avant l'installation, il faut regarder la vidéo présentant l'installation. Celle-ci se fait en 2x, l'installation du programme et l'installation des drivers- Pour la connexion, il faut avoir (ou acheter) un câble S-vidéo ET un cordon vidéo RCA mâle. Si les cassettes sont d'une caméra, cela suffira. Si cela concerne une VHS, il faudra également avoir un adaptateur péritel S-Vidéo / RCA- Lors du lancement de l'enregistrement, il faut bien faire attention à bien sélectionner le format souhaité (personnellement j'ai opté pour WMV), puis appuyer sur le bouton rouge pour enregistrer. SEULEMENT après il faut lancer la vidéo sur la caméra ou le magnétoscope. En bas à gauche, la durée et la taille de la vidéo s'afficheront.Bref, pour faire simple, je ne regrette en aucun cas cet achat !Merci !
