Draw the World: An Outline of Continents and Oceans

quick way to learn what the world looks like
I liked how my son could go through this, drawing all the continents quickly. He has been learning about individual continents as well, and this made it easy to see how they all fit together. I recommend all the Draw books by this author.

Easy to draw map of the world
I am homeschooling a 7th grade child who technically is finished with geography. I bought this to help maintain what we learned until high school. The book is good at breaking things down into only a few lines per step. It explains what you are drawing as you draw it. I love that it explains what you are drawing and where to put it on the page. The only thing I found disappointing was it recommended 11x 17 paper. I was only disappointed because I had to wait another week for the paper to arrive to start. My son is dyslexic has visual discrimination issues and this book really made it easy to follow and draw. This book will only last a week for him. We are breaking the lessons up over a week. A child could if his age possible sit down and draw the entire book in one seating. If they are younger it could be spread out as long as you want since it is so detailed. The steps are so clear that it is easy to pause and come back days later. I have 3 kids younger who can use the book after him so it is an investment.I am buying Europe next.

Great concept, but doesn't use the Prime Meridian
I bought Draw the World to use with my kids as we go through Classical Conversations Cycle 1. I love the idea of the step-by-step approach, but I really wish the author had used the Prime Meridian as the center vertical line the same way she used the equator as the horizontal center. Instead, the center of the map has a vertical line just slightly to the right of the Prime Meridian, cutting down through the lower part of Africa rather than just through the western part that sticks out (this new center line also goes up through Italy, rather than Spain and France). It may seem silly to care about the P.M. since it isn't as crucial as the equator given the rotation of the earth, but since it is one of the "great circles" we used in learning to "blob" the continents (as described by Leigh Bortins in The Core), I was disappointed that we couldn't just build on that basic map-drawing exercise by learning how to outline the continents in more detail with this book.

Great family geography activity around the table
This is the first book in this series that we have tried as part of our homeschool curriculum, and it works great as a group geography activity around the table for all ages (as long as they're able to hold a pencil) - our children are ages 10, 7, 5, and 3. I did help guide the 3 and 5 year olds a bit through each step, but they were still proud of their own work and accomplishment with the maps. I can foresee the older two children continuing to make and remake more of these maps for practice on their own in the future. And I plan to try other map-drawing books in this series, as we focus on other continents in our studies!

Great Start for Classical Learning!!! Get this FIRST then the others!
My 6th grade daughter did AMAZING! on her first attempt to draw the World! We did add a 1 inch square Grid on a Page Protector (over the page working on) and drew a grid on her paper. It helped so much. We will use a few more times before moving away from grid to just Equator, Tropic of Capricorn, Tropic of Cancer....etc. ENJOY!!!

Printing Issue
I am not sure where to report this issue, but there is a second, unrelated book inserted into the middle of my copy of "Draw the World." "Forever Family" by Kelly & Lindsey Bullard has been inserted in backward order along with a series of blank pages into the middle of my copy of this book. I think "Draw the World" will be something interesting to try, but for the price of this book, I'm not pleased with the strange printing issue.

My kids love it!
I am amazed at the progress my kids have made in such little time with this book. They absolutely love it and havenโt fought me on it when I ask them for their daily maps.

The steps in this book make it so easy to learn how to draw the states
The steps in this book make it so easy to learn how to draw the states. I did take the book to staples and had them spiral bind it, makes it a lot easier to read when the book lays flat!

A Nice Resource, But Not Worth the Price (For Us)
Draw the World: An Outline of Continents and Oceans is a step-by-step K-12 art/geography guide that shows how to create a map of the world. The illustrations are clear and easy to follow, however, I am giving a rating of 3 stars because I had higher expectations for a book within this price range. Rather than the entire book being a guide of how to draw a single world map on one large paper, I thought that it might include instructions on how to create various (and more highly detailed) individual maps of continents and oceans.
