Amazing book
This book is really helping me learn hiragana and katakana. It teaches you all the symbols including the Dakuon. It really makes it easy for you to remember the symbols and stroke order. I think this is a great book to start your Japanese learning journey!

Helps it sink in
I love this workbook. It's so much better than other methods I've tried - this way I'm actually using a pen directly in the workbook and having my notes in the same book as the guidance - it sounds simple but it's helping it all sink in better than before. It's very clear what I need to do and very satisfying to complete a chapter. The accompanying audio is a useful bonus. Look forward to more workbooks from Linguo!

Book has errors
This book is ok so far but from pages 37 to 39 there are errors. The book and audio files match but the answers on page 39 have a couple of errors. For instance the book asks for the Hirigana for Madarin orange, the audio file matches but when you look for the answers it gives the Hirigana for ‘baggage’; and on page 38 it asks for the Hirigana for clock and on the answer page it’s just not there. I have quite a way to go still but to come across these errors not even a 1/4 of the way in, isn’t very good. But as a starter tool I guess it’s ok.

It's early days, but I'm liking this book a lot.
I was looking for a book that would upskill my terrible Hiragana and Katakana writing skills. I am sure there are small children out there that are better thane me. However, this book is exactly what I was looking for.The book shows you how to write the characters correctly. It shows the correct or best direction to create the character strokes so that characters are more regular, neat and recognisable. I'm now starting to write like a Japanses 5 year old but you've got to start somewhere.I would throughly recommend this book if you are starting to get serious about writing Japanese.

Perfect
Easily manageable for people interested in learning Japanese, and not sure where to start. Makes learning the language a lot of fun, too!

excellent for beginners
I've struggled in the past to learn the Japanese hiragana and katakana. This book takes you through it step by step with instructions for stroke order for each letter and lots of space to practice. It's making the learning a lot easier for me this time around. It teaches some vocabulary and grammar as well, and there's a free audio track available online to support the written exercises. The book is nicely produced and clearly printed. I'd recommend it highly.

Excellent in some ways, but disappointing overall
There is a lot to like about this book. Generally, the explanations are clear, though there are a few places where they are a bit confusing because, I think, this is the first edition of the book and there are some errors that need fixing - for example, an explanation about a hiragana stroke says "...complete it when you get to the red dot" but there is no red dot. The main problem I have is that it is meant to be a workbook: a lot of the book is blank space for you to work in and that would be great if it was practical to use it, but it isn't. Firstly, a book like this really needs to be spiral bound. It's incredibly hard to write in because the binding makes it impossible to open it flat, so you can't really write on the left hand page. It's also printed on thin paper that ink soaks through, so even if you could easily write on the left hand page, it's a mess if you have already written on the other side. I suppose it would work ok with biro or pencil, but these are large letters and they look far better written with a fountain pen. I have tried a fairly dry black ink that doesn't soak in very much, but is still clearly visible, and a normal blue ink that pretty much soaked right through.I would recommend this book without hesitation if you could use it in the way it is presumably intended. I feel a bit mean only giving it 2 stars but I'm doing so in the hope that the publishers take note and fix these problems.

After being away..getting back into learning came easy
Their books are definitely designed well. Especially if you're a beginner or needing a refresher. Really glad I stumbled upon their books after searching.
