Can you write on this with regular markers or do you have to use permanent pens?

The game board / box / cards, etc are very similar in material to any game you might have at home. It has a gloss element to it and is not especially matte. Due to this, we found that it was best for my son the LIGHTLY draw out his game design in pencil so he could erase, if needed, without any major indentation marks or obvious erase marks, then he outlined / wrote in sharpie. If he erased, we erased gently, rather than rubbing the heck out of it to avoid it being obvious. He colored the entire board in with crayon lightly and the final outcome was really lovely. The cards, again, he wrote the rules lightly in pencil to make sure he captured what he wanted before making it permanent. Then he wrote over it with a thin sharpie type marker (my daughters art prismacolor mark is very thin!). He needed to highlight key vocabulary words (this was for a science class), so he highlighted with a highlighter but we found it necessary to let it dry overnight or it would smear. I would think a regular mark would be the same and wouldn’t advise using.

No, these have a matte finish and are meant to be used with permanent pens, markers, crayons, etc.

can you design both sides of the board?

The back side of the board is black so it would be hard to write on. I designed a game board and had it printed to the size of the board at office depot. My print out was sticky on the back side so I was able to just stick it on the board. This probably could work on both sides.

Would paint pens work on the board and box?

Yes, I used paint pens on both the board and box and it’s held up fine for over a year now.

Me gusta diseñar y montar juegos de mesa desde cero. Esta era una opción para ahorrarme el trabajo de recortar cartón, pegarlo y forrarlo, que lleva bastante tiempo. Slechte ondergrond van materiaal en moeilijk bewerkbaar

Het concept en de onderdelen zijn leuk en variabel voor spelcreatie.De ondergrond van het spelbord, doos, kaarten etc zijn moeilijk te bewerken, verf hecht niet goed, potlood is onbruikbaar(net zoals wasco e.d.).Het was zeer onaangenaam om te proberen hier iets kleurijks van te maken.

Brilliant. Certain pens can smudge and not seem to dry, as a left handed person this was a struggle I was used to. I tried different pens and found ones that worked for me and the materials on the board. Really good fun and all the pieces were there and of high quality.
