Char-Log Single Rocker with Star

Wanna ruin your Sunday?
....and possibly your marriage? First of all, let me say that this chair is super rad once it's assembled. Sturdy, good looking, comfortable. It fits all your chair needs....HOWEVER. ..Jesus Christ Himself would struggle with the assembly of this beast. After reading the reviews, my husband and I knew we were in for a challenge but decided we were capable adults and between the two of us, we could put together a chair... Incorrect.A bit of advice? The instructions. Throw them away immediately. Also find a friend with tiny, elf like fingers. This will be extremely helpful when tightening the bolts. Also, keep this elf person on hand for when it comes time to remove the number stickers from the wood which have been attached with an adhesive that NASA likely invented to glue together spacecrafts. We found it helpful to refer to the picture of the assembled chair rather than use the instructions provided...they were so confusing that a few times I asked my husband if he thought it was possible that the company had put the instructions for a different product in our box by mistake. ..nope...there at the bottom of what may have well been the map of the human genome was the effing star rocking chair. All assembled and looking smug. Finally, when the sun is setting and you have ordered two chairs but only got one assembled, it's important to take turns with your spouse enjoying your chair. For instance, one person can sit on a towel by the chair and look up and ask "how is it up there?" I found 15 minute intervals of chair time was fair. I'll let you know if our marriage survived the assembly of chair #2.

A review that I felt compelled to write and I rarely write reviews.
I always read reviews before placing orders and I was a little worried after reading other reviews but I went ahead and ordered a set of chairs anyways because they looked to be exactly what we were looking to purchase. I rarely write reviews but I felt this product deserved a review.Firstly, UPS tested out the durability in shipping by doing some serious damage to the shipping box but much to my surprise the chairs arrived in great condition regardless of UPS and their best attempt to destroy them en route. My wife and I opened the boxes and were greeted with the feel of real wood. These chairs are solid and weigh roughly 40 lbs once assembled.Next came the assembly, the step that almost caused me to skip out on these awesome chairs because of all of the reviews. People complained that they were difficult to put together and the directions were confusing. I found both of these to be false mostly. First of all, we found the directions more than sufficient and my wife was even able to follow them step by step and she is far from skilled at putting things together and building things. The next part I discovered that the little wrench that's included to hold the nuts and reach back in the holes is useless. Throw that away and do what I did instead. I saw some people used tweezers and needle nose pliers, I didn't find the need for them myself and was able to assemble my chairs with a socket wrench and my fingers. The trick is this, don't push the bolts all the in before trying to put the nuts on them because that makes me an incredibly irritating and aggravating time. Instead do this, push the bolts in to where they only clear the other side by roughly 1/4" and this gives you plenty of space to stick the nuts in there with your finger and then you can turn the bolt to get them started. I am about 5'11" and have above average hands and was able to do this technique with no issues whatsoever. I also ditched the cheapo wrench that is included and used a socket wrench instead to make things easier. I'm sure there are people without actual tools so I can see including it for them but if you have actual tools grab them and make it easier and quicker. It took roughly 1 hour per chair taking our time and not rushing but I'm telling you these chairs are worth your time and effort. We are absolutely in love with them. They are rated for I think it said 300 lbs each and are oversize chairs so they are good and roomy and the curved bottom makes them very comfy. They feel very sturdy and I feel like they will last us a very long time on our porch. Everyone that has seen them loves them and we've gotten countless compliments on them already in only a few weeks time.We actually loved the chairs so much that we went ahead and ordered the table and family rocker as well!

A Sturdy, Upright Rocker
Most rocking chairs lean back into a semi-reclining position. That is murder on your back, like laying on your liver, as uncle used to say. This one is more upright which is easier on your back. The seat is high enough to make it easy to get in and out of it. The rocker cycle is a shorter than most rockers, but that is a good thing. It's not going to swing back and forth wildly in the wind when no one is in it. The other half ordered this chair so I didn't look at it more than just a glance. Look at the assembled picture before you start to assemble it. The uprights mount to the inside of the rocker rails. Of course that means that the head of the bolt goes on the outboard side. The only awkward thing to deal with, is, the positioning of the nuts inside the radiused cavities. I found it easiest to use one finger to slide the nut in. Then you can simply use your fingers to turn the bolt. The provided socket is very useful in starting the bolts, as a ratchet will not ratchet, until you get some tension on the bolt / nut. The chair itself is a very rustic style made of pine. It is lightweight, but sturdy. It would have been a refinement if the manufacturer would give you wood plugs to push in the large holes. But it isn't a deal killer, I could make those myself.

Ridiculously difficult to assemble, lousy assembly instructions
This chair requires small, very dexterous fingers to havr a chance of putting this together. Even with these digits, you will struggle with determining how the pieces go together. The instructions are badly incomplete without a thorough description of each wooded piece and how it orients to another..essentially "how do these %@#& holes line up!" Tried YouTube , yes there was a company video on assembly, and NO, it answered none of my questions. Sorry, but in this day and age od captive hardware, there is no excuse for the tough assembly. The chair is functional, but I'm so angry with the tough assembly, it'll be a while before I enjoy it.

Great Chairs!!
Not terrible to assemble by yourself. I used my own ratchet in conjunction with the included wrench fir back up in the tight spots. They add three finishing touch to our deck.
