Schaum's Outline of Advanced Mathematics for Engineers and Scientists

This book proved itself useful in a undergraduate math methods class.Murray Speigel was and is highly regarded as an author of "teach yourself" mathematics texts. If you are struggling with applied mathematics at the undergraduate level I'd highly encourage taking a look at his other publications:Schaum Publishing Co:Theory and Problems of College Algebra (1956)Theory and Problems of Vector Analysis and An Introduction to Tensor Analysis(1959)Theory and Problems of Statistics (1961)Theory and Problems of Advanced Calculus (1963)Theory and Problems of Complex Variables (1964)Theory and Problems of Laplace Transforms (1965)Theory and Problems of Theoretical Mechanics (1967)Theory and Problems of Mathematical Handbook of Formulas and Tables (1968)Theory and Problems of Real Variables (1969)Theory and Problems of Advanced Mathematics for Engineers and Scientists (1971)Theory and Problems of Finite Differences and Difference Equations (1971)Theory and Problems of Fourier Analysis with Applications to Boundary-Value Problems (1974)Theory and Problems of Probability and Statistics (1975)Nearly all of the above were reprinted at later dates (and a few 2nd and 3rd editions) but excepting Mathematical Handbook of Formulas and Tables which had a few mistakes in the first edition and the obligatory tabulations I'd recommend trying to find the earliest avaliable printing as the quality is typically higher. My particular favorite is Complex Variables.Prentice Hall:Applied Differential Equations (1963,1967,1980)

I give it five stars just because it's such a convenient little book — need a quick review of basic calc? First chapter! And there's a grab-bag of a ton of stuff elsewhere.I haven't checked if many of the solutions are correct, but that's part of the fun, IMHO.It's a very handy little précis of topics, tending to the applied physics side of things (most of the content isn't relevant to my work in computer science, but it's still good applied maths, and it never hurts to review. better than playing a video game or doing a sudoku puzzle or something).One caveat: make sure if you get a used edition it's not like the one I got, printed in 1971: the content is still fine, but it looks like a book I might have found under a pool table in my Grandpa's basement.But that's not anything to do with the book itself.

The real utility of this book is not the reviews of the subject material but the 950 solved problems. I wish the supplementary problems also had worked out problems rather than just answers. There are many students and self learners who rely on these books to learn this mathematics. If you do not have access to a tutor or teaching assistant the worked out problems are critical. It would be extremely nice to have a new edition of this book written as a 2000 Solved Problems text. I have a used copy of 2500 Solved Problems in Differential Equations which is wonderful.

Good book. Arrive a bit late

I have the entire set of Schaums books. I used this one before starting my PhD studies in Economics. The Math is a great primer to every doctoral level student. The title of book should be 'Advanced Math for scientists, engineers, economists,and every doctoral student'. The book sells itself short by restricting itself only to natural sciences and engineering.

i got this book when i restarted engineering school after an eight year break. so nice to have a ready reference to look up all the details i'd forgotten about functions, laws, and details of how to work these problems i so love.

Bonne qualité du livre.Concernant le livre je suis au premier chapitre, il est bien écrit avec beaucoup d'exemple qui sont claires.

Toda la serie Schaum, en especial los Murray Spiegel, son ideales para estudiar por el espíritu didáctico de los libros. Recomendable para cualquier tipo de alumno, en especial el que se sienta atascado.

This book is not overload and it makes it easier to understand the material. Hence, if anyone want to get a little bit of knowledge in advanced calculus, I warmly recommend this one instead of the advanced calculus book that I thought a little bit overload.

マグロウヒルの応用数学の演習書であり、多くの例題が含まれていて、価格がとても安い。日本では、ライプニッツの積分則（定積分を微分したものの変換）を記載しているものが少ない。しかし、本書では、例題を含めて収録されている。このような、大切な定理は、日本の初級の数学書でも収録してもらえるとありがたいのだが。
