Just the right pace for me
This book is a perfect fit for the kinds of projects I'm doing, and presents information at just the right pace (for me, anyway). Each concept is explained exactly once, and the next time they ask you to perform that operation you have to either a) remember how to do it, b) review the section where they explained it, or c) Google it. For me that's the best way to learn.

Wonderful resource for those wanting to learn unreal engine 5.
Clear and concise — step by step instructions for learning unreal engine 5. Well written and one of the best tutorial books out there.

Good for beginners.
I’m generally satisfied with what I learned from this book I just wish there was some more in-depth walkthrough an actual cinematic workflow. I got general understanding of how the 3d objects created and animated as well some practical skills that I can improve further.

A Guide to Blender, Quixel Mixer, MetaHuman Creator, and More
One of the best features of this book is that the authors explain the concepts, and just show you how to do something. This is a refreshing approach. The book spends more time on non-Unreal Engine 5 tools and that is necessary as much of the content we create must be done with third-party tools. So, the authors cover a variety of these tools at great depth. They also demonstrate how to incorporate the external content into Unreal Engine 5.This book covers a lot of information and a lot of external tools. That being said, it is still appropriate for beginners. Of course, if you already have a related skillset (e.g., animation), you stand to get even more out of this book as you enhance your skills.

Great resource to learn character modeling and animation!
When I opened this book I was really pleased to see content using Blender, my 3D modeling software of choice. This book is a comprehensive look at how to use Blender and Unreal Engine 5 for building everything you need for cinematics. It walks you through creating characters, sets to place them in, animating them and then creating the cinematic. It's a wonderful resource! The book is broken into 4 sections, the first section covers asset creation including characters and props. The second section covers building up your virtual movie set to place your characters and props into. The third section covers rigging your characters for animation. The last section covers animating those characters. If you're interested in Character modeling, animation, or filming using Unreal Engine 5 and Blender than this is definitely a book to pick up!

A very comprihensive and well thought out book.
I have been waiting for a book that combines these 2 opensource technologies.Compared to other material I've seen, I can honest say that it is rare to see this amount of detail in one place on this specific topic. As a 3d and VFX artist for over 10 years, this book just shows that there is still a bucket load to learn. The sections are laid out in a nice step by step format. Easy for newcomers and super useful for those like me who want to progress further with real-time production in blender and Unreal engine5.The added bonus is that you not only get environment creation info, but you also get a detailed character creation pipeline.

I struggled with animation
Creating animations can be a difficult task. The author made it really easy for me to comprehend the process. I had no idea how to use Blender, but the author was able to make it easy to learn. I would highly recommend this book if you are looking into 3D modeling and animation.

Updated Stars
I am having a really hard time rating this book. I am up to Chapter 6. I had almost no experience with Blender when I started this book, but at this point I feel very comfortable in Blender and I am using shortcuts for most things, so I have definitely learned.I was a little in the fence about it because I quickly started to notice a lot of errors in the book. Places where the instructions are slightly wrong. Places where a new feature is introduced by only mentioning to press a key with no explanation of what it does. Places where the Author refers you to an earlier section about how to use a feature, but the use cases don't match. I would have 10 pages of errors by now if I was tracking them, but I gave up on that.So what about this book has actually made me frustrated with it's author? Well I spent almost a week modeling my own custom robot drone that the book teaches you to make. In chapter 4-5 the author has you "Explode" your model, and create UVs for texture mapping in XNormal. Earlier on, he also had you remove all the parts from one side presumably to mirror them later. There is a note about how you need to "Explode" (Separate the parts) to avoid some problem. Next you run it through XNormal and generate all the required maps. The problem? Well in the next section the author has you load his model and his XNormal maps from the sample files to learn Quixel mixer. His Model is not exploded. His Model has arms on both sides. There is no instructions in this book for how I get my one-armed, one eyed exploded robot drone model into Quixel Mixer so I can texture it as a whole like he has you do with his sample model. It only covers how to do it with his sample model that has clearly had several additional operations performed on it. I didn't buy this book to learn to texture other people Models. I didn't buy this book to spend a week following error-filled instructions to create a robot drone, only to then put the authors drone in my UE scene. Totally UNACCEPTABLE and LAZY writing. Why does the sample model have two arms and two eyes? Why is everything connected? How did he do it without duplicating the UV maps for mirrored parts? It's a huge important missing chunk of information that I now how to figure out in my own, or else I've just thrown away a tremendous amount of time modeling my custom drone.Updating to 4 stars. Through my own research I have managed to fill in much of the information that is missing from this book. It is pretty frustrating that there are important missing pieces of information, but I have learned quite a bit.

Very good book for basics in UE5 and Blender, recommended for teachers and students
It is comprehensive overview of creation process in Unreal Engine. Surpricelly it covers the most important parts of using UE5 including animation and Blender basics for creators. It is very good book for beginers and teachers. It uses UE5 and it will be good material for teachers/students during 2023/2024...

A great introduction to the world of 3D asset creation and animation
This book has been my companion for well over 2 months. Coming from an extremely low level of knowledge it patiently works through the process of creating 3d assets of different types, texturing them, rigging and animating. I massively enjoyed it as a complete newcomer although some degree of fluency with the very basic terminology is helpful. I found the step by step instructions extremely comprehensive and whenever I went astray it was because I had missed out a key step - and I learned from my mistakes. The feat is even more impressive in that some of the tools are brand new and changing. The book is supplemented further by comprehensive online materials which are of the same high standard. I would definitely recommend this book as a starting point for newcomers.
