excellent book
I bought this a year ago and forgot to review it. (!!!!!!) This is such a good, well written and easy to understand book - it is an amazing read and helps us to understand those who have lost their memory plus it reassures us that forgetting simple things, that have not sunk in, is normal. I've read all Lisa's other books and this was educational and really helpful.

great book about how memory works, with some tips on improving it.
Lisa Genova is a happy combination of good novelist and medical scientist. She writes very clearly about her subject.

Fascinating
Great read, it explains so much. My sister recommended it. It helps one to understand their own memory and short comings and that of loved ones and to realise forgetting is programmed in. I will pass it on to friends and family.

This book is excellent to reassure you when you go upstairs and forget what you went for. It also gives some excellent suggestions on how to improve your memory. They really work.

Very reassuring
Being mid 40’s and terrified of dementia this very well written and easily understood book was very reassuring to me. I think I’ll be ok for a few years yet…

Really reminded me of how interesting memory is-loved it.
I came into this book knowing I liked the subject of memory and knowing a fair amount about it from university. I left absolutely fascinated and enthusiastic and have decided as a result of my initial knowledge and interest + the revelation that this book gave me that I should pursue memory research for my dissertation. Excellently written, covers a lot of bases and easy to understand even for those with no background. Highly recommend !

Accessible and interesting.
This book has made me feel less concerned about my elderly memory. It explains how the brain processes information, what gets stored, what doesn’t, and why. Very interesting.

Want to understand memory and improve it? This is the book.
In Remember, Genova takes us on a grand tour through memory and, by proxy, our brain. The human brain is very complex, and our memory performs rather...poorly at times. For example, you'll learn about prospective memory (things you need to remember to do in the future) and how terrible it is. Instead of trying to improve it, it's best to just outsource that work to calendars, alarms, etc. You'll also learn how a memory summoned in one context--say, your living room--may interfere with your ability to remember in another context--like your car. For example, say you're in your living room and remember you left a textbook in your car. By the time you get to the car, you may forget what you came there for! You'll learn techniques for getting around the quirks of our memory. Things like learning to manage chronic stress, getting more sleep, visualization techniques, etc all enhance our memories.Genova also touches on Alzheimer's quite a bit, since anyone who knows about the disease is--or should be--terrified of it. There are things we can do to help prevent Alzheimer's, and a lot of memory glitches that we fear are signs of the disease are in reality normal.Written in an engaging way and chockfull of information, Remember is a *memorable* read. ;)
