Excellent Sound Quality
First, I don't know if there are different versions of this device for sale, but some of the comments seem to be a bit misleading. This model DOES NOT have a sd card slot and it is NOT shockproof or water-resistant.The battery life seems to be pretty good. It came fully charged and I've played it for about four hours now, mostly at 75% or more volume on Bluetooth, and the battery indicator on my iPhone shows it's still at about a 75% charge. My iPhone 4s has had a bad history of connectivity problems with my friend's speaker, yet it connects to this one without a hitch.I've listened to all types of music on this speaker for several hours now and I really do like it. I am an audiophile. However, unlike most who describe themselves as such, I prefer SQ (sound quality) over SPL (sound pressure level, aka volume), and that is where this little speaker delivers. My friend has a Jam Plus that sells for $50 at Wal-Mart. This speaker is not as loud as the Jam, but it definitely beats it in clarity and fidelity. The sound is very clean and surprisingly full for such a small driver. At max volume, there is no distortion at all, even when playing bass-heavy music such as dubstep. This speaker has very good mid-bass (100-200hz range) which offers a clean and distortion free low-end sound that most similar sized speakers seem to be unable to match. It can't hit on subwoofer-level bass, but bass guitars, kick drums and other low-end sounds above 100hz sound full and well-blended into the overall sound stage. The only slight disappointment came when I realized there is no carrying case.In conclusion, it doesn't get as loud as some other more popular speakers on the market for under $50, but the sound quality and low-end are excellent for this price point, in my opinion.

Fab, well made, quality little speaker!
Loving this thing! It's small, so wasn't expecting it to be a party speaker to cover a large crowd but it more than handles a small dinner party. It is small, but quite heavy with a good quality feel to the build. The buttons for volume/pause/next/previous tune are all on the base and the aux in and charging port are to the rear. The power light is a nice shade of blue that's at the bottom of the speaker. The blue strip around the middle in the photo is just a decoration and doesn't light up.I can't attest to the 8-12 hours battery life as I just plug it in at the end of the day, about 6 hours use, which has been no problem and I have no reason to doubt it lasting a few hours longer but I'm also having it beside by iPad, so it's not at the peak distance straining for a signal. I also don't use the microphone feature so I can't say how well that works. There's supposed to be a small red light at the back that lights up when charging and goes out when it has finished charging but I can't say I've noticed it.It comes nicely boxed with a charging speaker and small instruction booklet. Definitely recommend this speaker!

Not too good
1) Price - Alot of people are praising how good it is for the price. But , it's not like it's $5. There are many other speakers which I have now tried that are similar price and much better. One example being the Oontz Angle.2) Sound delay - you cant watch a youtube video or any video with it because there's a significant delay so the sound won't match up with the video. SooOOooO annoying.3) Dependability - These days I'm having trouble just pairing it with my phone or computer - it just doesn't work very well over long term (>1 year)4) Sound quality - It's fine. I really don't think it's superior in any way to other bluetooth speakers I've heard to be honest.I just don't recommend anyone buy this, there are better speakers out there in my opinion in similar price range. If it were to work more reliably id say its 2-3* but it really doesn't. Look elsewhere : )

I gotta have more volume.
It's very difficult to purchase speakers without hearing them. I have a literal graveyard of portable speakers as testament. Will the the EC Techs join the pile? Quite possibly. First let me say that these are among the nicest looking bluetooth speakers I've seen. It has decent weight yet it's small enough to fit comfortably in my computer bag. The sound while not quite symphonic, as some reviewers have suggested, has decent range including a small (very small) amount of thump at the low end. The problem (I found) is the volume. This speaker is rated at five watts. Using the Sound Meter app and establishing a baseline of about 58 dB I was able to measure a peak volume of about 86 dB which doesn't sound bad except for the fact the iPod's internal speakers measured about 81. Which means that if you're using listening to this thing while in the shower or with the AC blowing your ears had better be pretty sensitive. I'm not even going to complain about the stupid location of the volume and track controls (which I'm sure was based on aesthetics). I would just like a little more volume.

Very good for the money
Does what you think it does. Neat looking, although the picture is a bit deceiving. The only blue light is on the little button, the rest is colored plastic.Battery life is advertised at 8-12 hours, and that's pretty accurate. Depends on your volume. I use it near max volume and I get 8 or 9 hours of continual use. Kinda surprising but I bet if you opened it up, half of it would be battery. It has an auto-off feature which is sweet. Two issues I hope someone important reads: #1 the low battery warning. First time I heard it, I jumped. Every 45 seconds for the last 10 or so minutes, it's as if a nuke siren from the '60s was going off. Surely that's using more battery than just a beep or something.#2 I don't want speakerphone to default to on. It's easy enough to press the bluetooth button on my dialer when in a call, but if I'm not quick enough, something bad might happen.Overall a great speaker for $30. Audio quality is good enough for me, I'm not a audiophile. Just needed a speaker for my shop.
