Many useful features generally found on more costly models
I was expecting a basic cam with basic features, due to its size and low cost. What I found is a camera that brings the best of options to a compact size at a great price. Its small size means that it consumes very little windshield space. You'll hardly know it's there. But there is an option to invert the image, in case you'd rather mount it on your dash instead.Mounting is easy and secure, although if its adhesive falls victim to the Florida sunshine this summer, I'll have a more permanent solution at the ready.Downloading the free app and connecting to the built-in WiFi is simple. This makes setting options so much easier from your phone than using the buttons to navigate. They should point the user to this right away in the manual. The videos it produces are of nice quality with impressive detail. I've added screenshots. There are a number of voice commands you can use to control it, like "take a photo". This is a nice upgrade.A GPS sensor is built into the mount, so your videos can be tagged with your exact location and speed.Overall, the features of this small and light camera are very nice for the price.

Overall good for the price
Really liking this dash cam from Vantrue, quite impressed with the quality and feature set for the price. This cam has built in GPS with impact detection and I was impressed with the quality of how it was packaged.Overall, installation was really easy, and what i really like about it is the fact that the USB C connector exists both on the mount for the camera or the camera itself.Comparing this to other dash cams, i really love the smaller, compact size, it’s basically 1” square, and it doesn’t take much space on your windshield. I drive a jeep wrangler, which has a tiny amount of windshield space and this cam fits perfectly.I found the user interface very easy to configure. the unit has 3 buttons on the bottom, though navigating the menus would be easier if they added an additional button to navigate menus back and forth. With 3 buttons, you have to toggle through each menu option, if you pass a menu item, you have to go thru the entire list to get to it again.I also like that the screen comes on when you power it on and when it turns off, there’s a green light that blinks to indicate it’s on and recording, so you know it’s working. if a flashing light annoys you. it is possible to turn it off by menuthere’s a side orange button you can press a when an incident happens, it will automatically take a pictureOne thing I don’t like about this camera is the mount used a 3m adhesive to attach to the windshield. It’s VERY VERY sturdy once attached but if you accidentally attach the camera in the wrong place on your windshield and need to move it, you have tk use another adhesive strip. They do give you an additional one in the packaging and a scraper but i’d much rather the camera had a suction cupI don’t use the wi-fi feature but i appreciate the camera has it for quick configuration. I don’t find it necessary to use, the camera is easy enough to set up with the menus on board.I tested the camera on the bench before installing it and it draws only about 100ma constantly when recording, so it doesn’t draw that much power if you were to wire it to run when the car is offI found the photo and video quality acceptable but it could be better. it’s decent enough to see details but you’re not going to be able to read license plates from afar. But at this price point, i think it’s quite acceptable. (see pictures)

Great budget dash camera with a few compromises
For those that do not like long reviews, overall this is a nice dash camera. I'd recommend it for those looking for a dash camera on a budget that holds a lot of footage (due to 30fps recording and up to 512 GB micro SD card support). Motion clarity isn't the greatest due to the 30fps recording, but driving in direct sunlight looks pretty decent. For those that want an in-depth opinion, let's get to the specifics:Image Quality:I think the image quality is good for a budget camera. During the day, the image is crisp and colorful and motion clarity is good, despite recording at 30fps. Image quality could be further improved with their polarizing filter, as my windshield is fairly prone to reflecting my dashboard. I'm impressed with the level of detail this camera could capture inside of parking garages. It was able to capture the surroundings while not overcompensating for vehicle headlights or bright overhead fluorescent lights. Everything remained nice and clear. I'm not the biggest fan of how it records at night. I noticed a lot of "noise" in my recordings, especially in the night sky. Motion clarity also struggles at night. You'll see what's in your headlights or lit up by streetlights, but very low light is where this camera struggles a bit.Features:There are a lot of features packed into this camera. The voice commands are pretty responsive. There is no action word, so you may accidentally trigger some commands if those words are spoken in your car. I'm really impressed with the GPS data attached to your recordings. This can be viewed with the Vantrue Player along with other metrics (more on this later) or it can be viewed as a standalone stamp on your video recordings. You can add a lot of stamps to your video recording such as time, GPS coordinates, your license plate, speed, and more. There's also a built-in G-Sensor that can take photos or video once the set level is surpassed. This has triggered for me going over speed bumps at the default level, so it can be adjusted to be more or less sensitive as you need. The Phone App:I like how easy it is to adjust any setting of the camera you want. The camera connects to your phone via WiFi, but will keep your phone's data connection available to use for navigation or streaming music. You can also live view your camera's recording so you can see how the changes in setting affect the video quality without needing to dump the SD card contents and view the footage after-the-fact.The Computer App:This app is genuinely cool. It combines a video player, a GPS overlay of your trip, various vehicle facts (g-forces (x, y, z axis), speed, GPS coordinates and the ability to trim/review your footage. It can be full screened to just use as a video player if you wish, but the added functionality built into the app is super cool and there was clearly a lot of thought put into this by the Vantrue team. The compromises:This camera can only record at or below 30fps. 60fps should be the standard for all dash cameras. It would help so much with the image clarity issues I have. The very low-light performance of this dash camera is not so great. It will see what's lit up in your headlights field of view, but the rest of the video frame will be noisy with very little detail.Overall thoughts:This is a great camera for the price, and if you're looking for a cheap, general purpose dash camera that can record a lot of footage, you should consider this camera. With motion clarity in mind, you may not be able to capture license plates as clearly as it's shown in the product photos, but it's more than enough to be able to determine liability in an accident (along with the metrics captured by the camera). Both apps offer tons of control over both the camera as well as video/photos captured with this camera. I can live with the compromises made to take the camera to such an affordable price.
