Excellent kettle with or without wi-fi
This is not a cheap kettle, but is worth the outlay for the combination of wi-fi convenience plus sheer quality.Looking at the wi-fi part first (that's why you're reading this review, isn't it?) the setup is easy and options many. I use my appkettle with an iPhone, and its app is very slickly-designed (for example, with animated water to show heating in progress). And it's particularly nice to be able to see a readout both of the exact amount of water in the kettle and the time needed to boil (see phone screenshot below). As far as the kettle itself goes, its elegant design and quality stainless steel finish should grace any kitchen. Some plus and minus points below.Plus points: easy to see the water level from either side; swivels on the base; pours perfectly; can be filled through the spout (with care); lid comes off and goes on with a satisfying positive action; handle will be comfortable for most; boils very quickly; can easily be used without wi-fi as a manually-controlled kettle.Minus points: fairly heavy even unfilled, so could be an issue for those with a weak grip; handle is quite wide, especially at the top, so those with small hands might have a issue here; kettle can rock a little when initially placed on base, but it does sit in a stable way; lid heats up, so if refilling after boiling take care to avoid the back of your fingers touching the lid to the sides of the black insulated grip.Notwithstanding the small points above, most people should really enjoy using this kettle. Highly recommended.UPDATE AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF USEThe kettle continues to perform very well. I have noticed a couple of oddities it's worth mentioning. The second of the two is more significant, but still a minor issue.(1) You can see the water well and truly boiling for several seconds before the temperature shows 100 degrees and a triple beep sounds to signify completion. So if you are nearby you can remove the kettle from its base and both save a small amount of electricity and avoid having to hear the slightly irritating triple beep.(2) With the kettle being used multiple times daily, once in a while (every few weeks) it mysteriously refuses to heat even though it contains plenty of water. You get the same warning beep that you get if you switch it on with too little water, or none at all. The solution is to switch the kettle off at the wall plug, wait a few seconds, then power it up again. That is, get it to reset itself.

A fully featured smart kettle which is also a great dumb kettle too.
This is not the first "smart" kettle I have owned, in fact, it's the third but it is definitely the best EVER!There is definitely a tendency to make "smart" thing app dependant, which is - if you want my opinion - actually a retrograde step.In the old days, if you wanted to boil the kettle, you flip a switch - job done. Now you have to find where you put your smart phone, run an app, wait for it to connect, select a profile, run the profile, shout at the phone as it says the device is not in range... wave the phone about... realise you haven't turned on your router yet... turn on the router... wait for it to boot up...you know what I mean. With this kettle, you can do everything from the base. Select a temperature, keep the water warm... everything.Okay, the electronics do "go to sleep" and you may have to tap the "GO FOR IT" button twice but woteva...The fact you can - if you so want, boil the kettle from upstairs so it's ready for you when you get into the kitchen, is a way cool feature. The fact you can - if you want - say "Alexa, Switch Kettle On" is epic... but the novelty quickly wears off. What is best about this kettle is, when the water reaches boiling point, it stops heating it. I have had a smart kettle that took 90 seconds to spot the water is actually 100C and boiling! That is a lot of wasted energy. What is second best about this kettle is that you can set the temperature you want the water to reach - both manually or by app - and it REMEMBERS IT!!!More energy goes into raising the temperature of water from 99 to 100 that from 90 to 91 - it's because you are trying to convert a liquid into a gas and that takes a lot of energy. So Stop and think, do you actually really, really NEED 100 degrees? I have mine set at 95C - which is the best temperature for most tea's.What is third best feature of the kettle is the view ports on BOTH sides of the kettle, so seeing how much water is in there is really easy - the app will tell you if you are remote.Generally, this is a very well thought out product which just so happens to be a smart device also. I would love it if it was not connected but as it is... well, I am very, very impressed with it.Oh yes. By the way, setup was fairly easy also... just follow what the instructions say - yes, I know that's only the manufacturers opinion on how it should be done.... - and you be up and running quickly enough.
