Greenberg Smoked Turkey, Inc. Smoked Turkey 6lbs

This was our 1st time ordering the Turkey online from anywhere. We figured just us 2 so why not just order the meats (also had a brisket, from another company) for the meal. I'll admit I was a little leery of how salty a smoked Turkey would be, as I have an intolerance to salt ever since my teen yrs. I saw the review where another person said her ankles swelled after a few days eating the meat.WOW, we were both so surprised at how flavorful and moist the meat was!! Today is the 3rd day of eating off the Turkey, ours was an 8 pd one, and we have to limit ourselves from "pigging out"! I haven't had any swelling, and the flavor was NOT salty.... which was my initial concern. We are happy and sad too that we went so many year without trying a smoked turkey before. I plan on ordering another for Christmas when our daughter is here, so she doesn't miss out throughout her life as we did. Last note is I spoke to one of the owners asking for the turkey to be shipped at a date later than Amazon listed, and he personally saw to it that the turkey was delivered a few days before Thanksgiving, and was so nice and helful as to my questions and even offered some extra tips to use the turkey for and in!! Will be ordering for Christmas and in future holiday times as well! By the way order more than you'll need so you can enjoy and share more!!

Reasonable price I thought - roughly $7/pound. The bird arrived on time, though wasn't shipped with cool packs which initially made me nervous. However, I suppose they know what they are doing. We ate the bird, and the bird was good! Nice smokey flavor. The only improvement I could recommend is, where the seasonings were injected under the birds skin - it seemed to be concentrated just where the injection was made, and didn't seem to spread around or permeate the meat. So there were pockets of intense salt/pepper in a few sporadic places. If that is the way it is supposed to be, then I withdraw my suggestion. A good eat, though!

I like smoked meats, but there's such a thing as too much of a good thing. Less smoking and nice smelling wood would have made a big difference. Maybe they left mine in too long. The smoke smell/taste was overwhelming and smelled like lumber wood rather than Applewood or some other flavor enhancing wood.Nobody at Thanksgiving like the sliced meat so we shredded it, added BBQ sauce and made sandwiches instead. The acid and molasses in the sauce gave the deeply smoked meat what it needed to shine.

As soon as my smoked turkey arrived, I dived right in. I woke up the next day, swollen from excessive salt consumption. The turkey was moist and delicious, so I gave it another shot by making a stew with it. It turned out really well. The flavor from the turkey was enough to spice up the stew, reducing the meat's salt content.Iterating what some of the other reviewers have said, this is a salty bird with an overwhelming smoke flavor. It's delicious, in small doses.

My grapes, oranges, apples, and every other impressionable refrigerated produce item fell victim to the smoke. Thanksgiving could not arrive fast enough. Sadly, it was still 6 days away. Four days before T-day, our goal had shifted to getting it out of the house. Sunday evening, 4 days BEFORE Thanksgiving, my family cut into the bird. The bird was dry and seriously smoked. We considered trashing it but felt guilty at the thought. On Tuesday, we turned Smokey into soup and handed it out to the homeless. On Wednesday, we bought a Butterball. The verdict? Greenberg turkey was not the most horrible turkey my family has ever eaten...but guaranteed, we won't be buying another.

Everything was great with order and delivery. On the other hand you really need to like smoke meat to like this turkey. I felt that the salt and the smoke flavor was over powering. I would buy it again if the company starts offering mild or lite seasoning besides that I will not order it again because for my taste it would had been perfect with 1/2 of the seasoning. The turkey was cooked well and it was not dry,

I buy this turkey every year...it's a family favorite at Christmas. If you like your smoked turkey to taste like ham, then this bad boy isn't the one for you. They are heavily smoked like it's nobody's business and the resulting taste is bar none incredible, like no other smoked turkey that I've ever had. Try it and your taste buds will be doing a happy dance wondering where this turkey has been all their life.

I hate to write negative reviews, but this turkey is definitely not to our family's tasting. It was so highly recommended by a famous person in particular, so thought we would try. Thats first time I did not listen t my gut and went with other people's recommendation. Not again, however, first time for everythiing. Sorry!!!!!!
