Make Your Own Comfort Food
I have been a vegetarian since the 1970s. I have used and enjoyed nutritional yeast many, many times. I don't, however, like it when nutritional yeast is compared to cheese. They are two different animals (or plants). They taste different and have a different texture. I believe it's a marketing mistake to keep referring to nutritional yeast as "cheese." But here we are...The best vegan macaroni and cheese I ever ate was at one of the old Soul Vegetarian restaurants in Atlanta. Their recipe is a bit different than this one, but it does use nutritional yeast. This product can serve as a good starter if you want to get closer to the Soul Vegetarian taste, but be prepared to add your own twists to make it taste better.I made the recipe that's printed on the jar of this product and found it easy and convenient to make. I used real butter and milk made with powdered whole milk because that's what I had in house. The taste was good, not great, but an easy-to-make comfort food for me. I also put mixed nuts on top. It provided a healthy serving, and I will likely make it every couple weeks or so. Next time I do want to pair it with sweet potatoes and a vegetable (peas, corn, etc.).Frankly, I believe the price is crazy high. Fortunately, competition will eventually force the manufacturer to make this a more reasonable purchase. The ingredients include nutritional yeast, of course, potato starch, tapioca starch, sea salt, coconut flour, garlic, onion, smoked paprika, turmeric, and something called "Organic Vegan Cheese Flavor" (I'm curious what THAT is). So feel free to experiment on your own to get the flavor you want.I have also used this on pizza, in soups, and on popcorn. It is handy to have in the pantry and works well as a seasoning.

Great for quick meal prep!!
I've been looking for easy meal prep ideas, inspired by savory high protein instant meals like Huel. I needed a couple ready-to-go elements, and this looked great. I pre-cooked some garbanzo bean penne pasta, then used this mix with my unflavored bone broth protein powder, adding a tiny bit of water to the milk and butter and mix. Perfection! I added some roasted broccoli to make it a complete meal with 40 grams of protein. There's about 50 portions in this mix, makes it $1.70 per serving, adding in $1 for pasta and .50 for the bit of milk and butter, that's cheaper than a huel meal, and mine has better pasta. Boom!

Surprisingly good...and convenient
It’s generally a pain to make cheese sauce from scratch. Mostly, I just sprinkle grated cheese on the dish and call it done. But this GrownAs Vegan Cheese Powder sounded like a good alternative. And it is. With some cautions.I’d like to see the ingredients posted on the web page. There’s a bunch...but nothing frightening so I’m not sure why nothing is listed on the product page. These are: Potato Starch, Nutritional Yeast, Tapioca Starch, Sea Salt, Coconut Flour, Garlic, Onion, Smoked Paprika, Turmeric, Xanthan Gum, Annatto Powder, Organic Vegan Cheese Flavor. The instructions as listed make a rather thin sauce. It actually was ok when I poured it over the macaroni, though. Next time I might try adding the milk a little at a time until I get the consistency I’m looking for. The advantage to a powder is I can do this easily. The taste was, really, pretty darn close to ‘real’ cheese. One family member even thought that the touch/bit of a smokiness in the flavor (from the smoked paprika) did clearly come through.I even tried a little of the powder straight up and it was good. I could probably sprinkle it straight on some popcorn...or make a thicker sauce and pour over some veggies … or maybe just add a little to some soup for an extra kick. Finally, for a special taste treat, I did add some of the cheese powder to some rice (after the rice finished cooking and was ‘resting’) and that was really nice. Cheesy rice along with some simmered chicken thighs made for a something-different but really good dinner.Overall, a good product. It’s slightly more expensive per ounce than some other alternatives, but I haven’t tried those so I can’t say if it’s worth the extra.

Nice powdered, vegan cheese substitute!
My son and I enjoyed this vegan, powdered cheese. He has a dairy allergy as well as celiac and can not eat or drink anything containing milk or gluten so it was a happy accident when I stumbled across this! As far as the flavor goes, to us, it tastes very much like salted nutritional yeast. If you look at the pictures I have provided, the plastic bag on the right is the nutritional yeast I had gotten prior and the container on the left, is this product. You can see how much the two look alike. After looking at the ingredients, it's apparent that a large ingredient in this is nutritional yeast. What I like about this product is that the added starches and coconut flour act as a thickening agent so if you add this to some dairy free milk, or even to some boiling water, it will thicken to a sauce. Just be careful as the longer you cook it, the more it thickens. I feel like a have a pretty discerning palate, however, I did not taste much of the added flavors; like I said before, it tasted very much like salted nutritional yeast. I may have caught an ever so slight hint of onion and/or garlic which I feel is a good thing because if it were too over powering, it would make this as a sauce, not go with certain dishes. Overall, I'm very happy with this product and will most likely get more when thus runs out.

Very tasty!
This product was easy to use, mixed well/not clumpy, and tasted great. The proce is a bit intense, in my opinion, but it does seem somewhat on par with other vegan products. It would just be nice if this sort of food was more accessible to all.
