I never felt so confident about understanding the benefits and risks associated with mushrooms.
The introductory write-up, specifically asking if I’m afraid that I won’t be able to tell the edibles from the poisonous, got me to read this book, and I’m glad I did. In preparation for my hiking trip, I’ve ordered books about the plants and animals living in the region but neglected to get one about the mushrooms living there. There’s so much great information in this book, which is organized in an easy-to-read manner that readers will inevitably remember the critical content. Due to the format and information, I never felt so confident about analyzing and understanding the benefits and risks associated with mushrooms.

The definitive handbook for mushroom foraging.
Right up front, my wife and I love mushrooms. Raw, sautéed, stuffed, it doesn’t matter, we love mushrooms. Unfortunately we are both limited in our knowledge and discernment regarding the safe and more tasty mushrooms available in the wild all about us. Enter this book. I’ve looked at many other books written to help the novice forager recognize the usable mushrooms from the less than healthy variety. This book truly is so well done. The material is presented in a very easy to comprehend format replete with illustrations, pictures, and simple yet more than adequate instructions for identification. I would highly recommend this book to both expert and novice mushroom foragers and those who are just wanting to know more about mushrooms.

It’s good
It would be better with color photos, but it’s good none the less

Very enjoyable read as well as informative!
Even though I have foraged for mushrooms in the Montana mountains I have only picked one type and that is the Morels. Mostly because I could easily identify them. This book has shown me how many more edible ones are out there and I am looking forward to trying to identify some of them. I also agree with the author that the "Morels are better sauted" ...especially in butter!

step by step harvesting safe mushroom
While I was a big skeptic all about mushroom benefit because it’s known to be poisonous after reading this book I felt confident about harvesting mushroom and identifies which ones are safe and which ones are dangerous. I am so excited for spring and to go to Rocky Mountain to start harvesting natural mushroom that are healthy for me and my loved one and be able to confidently experience the true benefit of mushroom . Next year I will be growing my own . Highly recommend for anyone looking for self sustainable life style and source their own food

Skeptically Simple
I haven’t died yet…I did not expect the book to be black and white. Color seems like an important characteristic when it comes to IDing mushrooms. We were able to ID one type while camping and it was delish.

Great book + an awesome bonus!
This book has so much helpful information, I am not near the Rockies but have still been able to identify so many mushrooms on the east coast. And my favorite of all is the digital field guide! I feel like I have the safety knowledge of a book, but I can bring it with my on my phone. So helpful!

Pictures are black and white and not great quality
I was severely disappointed! How can you safely identify mushrooms with black and white pictures of on top not even great quality?!? I did not even look further into the book, I sent it back right away . I actually ordered two, one for a friend, both went back!
