A Soil Owner's Manual: How to Restore and Maintain Soil Health

Just felt like I was waiting for book to start
The book has a few basic concepts that most people interested in soil health already know such as disturb soil less, multi species crop, keep soil covered, etc. We recently purchased a farm that really needs help. I was hoping this book would be more of a "how to" book(like the title suggests). Just was not what I was expecting

Vital information for the health of the planet
Excellent! Intermediate level information for all who are interested in agriculture (including gardening) and/or climate change. Has gems of wisdom for beginners but the more one learns about the topic, the better the understanding. Read it twice.

Great book to help understand soil health
This is a good read for anyone who wants to know more about soil health and why it's so important to producers, land owners, and everybody that eats and drinks water.

Five Stars
Very practical approach to soil restoration. Makes an interesting case for fewer soil amendments and more diversified cover crops.

READ THIS BOOK!
This book deserves a place in any library. It explains soil to the layman. It goes far enough technically to be insightful for the citizen scientist. A quick read full of remarkable information. Regardless of your place in the horticultural world, you’ll gain something from it.

Very little content, poor value for money
Don't bother buying this book. The advice, such as it is, can be summarized thus:- Soil is a living, breathing thing.- If you plough it or tip chemicals on it, you disrupt the soil structure and the health of the many organisms living in it.- If you uncover the soil, it will be eroded by the elements, so keep it covered. These ideas are not new or radical, and anybody with even a passing interest in regenerative agriculture and/or permaculture will already understand them. This book does not (as it promises) explain the arcane details behind these practical facts. Instead, the author simply repeats the same things over and over again (sometimes verbatim!) and expands upon nothing. At best, there are about ten pages worth of quality content, and that suitable only for a novice.Since the author is apparently an experienced agricultural extension officer, one would have thought he'd provide numerous practical examples showing how the themes of his book can play out in practice. There are no examples at all.I read through to the end out of sheer morbid curiosity to see if he would stop repeating himself and say something new. He doesn't.

Learned a lot from this book.
Interesting and ideal for a gardener. Especially since we own half an acre. I’m the gardener and grow all our own fruit and veg. Learned a lot.
