file holder is made from pressed sheet metal, failed at fold in sheet metal within one week of use. files were sharp and cut well. The problem is they used folded sheet metal to make this thing instead of proper screws. Look closely, the file holder is held by some pretty chintzy clips. You can see at 1. that the clip metal is simply folded over a cutout on the base of the file holder, and 2. is where there's a 90 degree fold in the metal that failed on mine in the first week of use. Perhaps why the advertisement shows him sharpening without the file holder - his broke too? On a different model you can see 3. where a hand screw is very effective at holding the file, even though it uses 4. bent wire (look for better quality steel or the screw threads will fail on you). I had one of these before and it lasted several seasons - no need to buy a $50 file guide!

i gave this item a four star rating overall because the directions stink i had to go online to see how to use it. the handle could be a little better other than that the item works great. i sharpened a chain that wouldnt cut that good, it took only a little bit to sharpen when done i cut a large tree into firewood it worked great im glad i bought this item and would recommend it.

Nice complete kit of assorted file sizes and all the other pieces necessary for chainsaw chain maintenance. Look on youtube for sharpening if you are new to sharpening. I used the file without the guide. What's important is to use the same pressure and number of strokes when filing each tooth for each side. Otherwise your cut will tend to walk to the left or right when sawing.

It's not terrible and it's quite inexpensive but as they say, you get what you pay for. I could not make the guide to work right. The file wanted to slip out and it felt clumsy. I work with my hands all day, everyday and I don't think the awkwardness was my fault. I was able to sharpen the chain fairly well without the guide and the files work well enough for the cost.

This is a cheap alternative to those high priced sharpening kits. it does take much more time and may not always produce results 100% perfect but it works. I have been sharpening blades for some time as we are in northern Michigan with a lot of trees of which many decide to come down. Once you get the hang of proper alignment the product works as intended. Keep in mind this is a basic kit with rather low quality files that will not last over time. For the price it will be all the average homeowner needs once they watch the YouTube videos on how to properly sharpen blades.

My husband is constantly looking for the chainsaw file...I think we must own 50. When I saw how everything was in one pouch my thought this would be the perfect Father’s Day gift to travel on his Honda Pioneer. If he was out working they would be with him.

Product is of fair quality, Instructions are garbage! Low ratings cause the instructions are worthless, and I mean worthless!!!! If you have never sharpened a chainsaw chain before, find a “kit” with better instructions. Had to show my brother how to use it. bought as gift.

This kit has everything you need to maintain your chainsaws sharpness. It is easy to use and does a very good job. I also like that it doesn't take up much space so you have it when you need it.
