Excellent nestbox for parrotlets
This is a great nestbox and a good size for a pair of parrotlets and a brood of chicks. I chose plastic due to the simplicity of disinfection with F10 before use to ensure a safe clean environment for our parrotlet pair to use.The first box that arrived, all the way from the USA was damaged, one of the hooks had snapped clean off in transit. However upon reporting this issue, the seller promptly dispatched another box for us and the delivery charge was refunded and we did not have the expense of returning the broken product either. So despite the slight inconvenience and extra wait for a second delivery, it has been worth it so thank you to the Amazon international seller for their excellent response and very good customer service. The nest box can be hung inside or on the outside of a Hagen vision cage. We have put it in the outside, on a tall medium Hagen vision cage, with just one of the upper doors left open, there are no gaps. I’m not particularly concerned if the inspection door is loose (it doesn’t bolt closed so mum could lift it a bit if she really tried) as it wouldn’t matter if our parrotlets got out during day as they are allowed out of the cage to free fly twice a day anyway! I could tape it closed with masking tape on the outside anyway if it was an issue. There is a plastic insert that fits snugly on the inside of the nestbox floor. You will need to add an appropriate substrate on the floor according to the bird species in question since eggs would slip around and break or chicks legs could easily slip and splay otherwise. One end of the plastic insert has a natural concave so the female bird can snuggle down once she goes down to lay.The inspection door lifts and will stay up if you need to check on mum and eggs or chicks, a.though our female parrotlet is typically protective of the interior cage and nestbox area already!Anyway our birds seem delighted with their new home extension. The female “kiwi” has been inside inspecting the interior a few times and the male “Captain Bluey” has joined her. At the moment she just stands in there and dosen’t seem to know what else to do but the box is ready should she decide to lay!Perhaps a useful tip regarding getting a pair of tame or semi tame pet birds used to the box which is white and bright and probably a bit scary at first.....I placed the box with the inspection door open on a table near to their cage with the substrate in and some of their favourite foot toys nearby and inside. The toys allowed our birds to desensitise any fear of the new nestbox very quickly and they were soon playing about in it, within a day. Perhaps some birds might need a bit more time, parrotlets are delightfully bold by nature. Finally I have read that parrotlets can be super fussy about the substrate in a nestbox so we have provided a couple of different things in there for them to try....I understand they will sling out anything that is not to their exacting satisfaction and we look forward to observing this behaviour very soon as the breeding season gets underway!I do t know about what other species of bird this box would be suitable for but it certainly perfect for our parrotlets, they fit through the nestbox hole no problem.

good for some not for others
No safety barrier to view the chicks from without risk of an angry parent munching on you. Did not find it that easy to take off and put on - you can end up leaving a gap - this can result in an escapee. Also when used with hagen if you only have a single tier cage it blocks your view of your birds and reduces access to the cage unless you mount it in side (but that would take up a lot of room) on the plus side the birds loved it it looked good and was really easy to clean after use - use if you have a double tiered cage and if you don't mind no viewing glass. I would not of been happy if I had paid a lot but I got this cheap compared to some available.

Once the birds realised it was a nesting box, I got chicks. It took too long though. Also, if given choice the box is rejected in favor of wooden ones so it can't be used with them present.

very good, easy to clean
very good, easy to clean, my parrolets love it, bit slow on delivery but did come all the way from the USA as you can not get them in England, had to fit it inside the cage as it leaned backwards and left a big gap
