Works great for 10/100. will not support 1G connection.
This product worked perfectly for me. It allowed me connect 2 IP security cameras using a single Cat 6 cable. Check the following before ordering: 1) The devices must ok with 10/100MB connections. 1G connection requires all 8 wires for a single device, so no chance to "share" the single Cat 6 cable. 2) The shared Cat5/6 cable needs to have all 8 wires (4 pairs) connected in order to work. I have found some cheap/old ethernet cables that had less than all 8 wires connected. 3) the splitter is sold in pairs and you need to use one a both ends of the shared cable. Additionally my cameras use PoE (Power over Internet) and no issues either. This product was a huge time and $$ saver for me because I didn't need to run an individual Cat5/6 cable to every IP camera.

Works as advertised, need to use both splitters.
This works great. Saved me from installing an Ethernet switch for just two devices. I have a single Cat6 run between the router and bedroom. I wanted a way to connect two Ethernet devices simultaneously on the same Ethernet wire. Found this here. I connected one splitter on the bedroom side to both Ethernet devices and then on the other side connected the other splitter to two ports on my router. I can’t tell if there was a reduction in speed from the device performance, but it appears from the indicator lights on my switch that 1 Gbps Is downgraded to 100 Mbps. For reference I’m connecting a Roku and TiVo mini as the two Ethernet devices.

Didn't work for my purpose
The cabling in our house results in a Verizon FiOS Modem/router on the lower floor with a cat5 cable running from an ethernet port in that router to a gateway router upstairs. We have a desktop that is plugged directly into the gateway router. This arrangement with an extender provides Wi-Fi coverage throughout the house. However, the download speed at the FiOS router Ethernet port is just under a gigabit. When mediated through the gateway router the desktop speed is more like 400 Mps. I was hoping I could remedy that with this device by plugging the cable from the FiOS modem into the input and running one of the outputs to the gateway router and the other to the desktop. However this did not work. Result was greatly decreased speed for the desktop (95 MPs) and the gateway router.

A Switch... Not a Split! An Important Distinction to Make Before Buying.
Built well and easy to use, but it will not work if your Ethernet is 1GBps or higher. For that you need an Ethernet Switch, not an Ethernet Splitter. Wish I had known that before the purchase. Based on some of the other reviews that also state "it doesn't work", I'd wager they also have higher Ethernet speeds, and mostly likely didn't know that they needed a switch instead. Be Ye Forewarned!

Works perfectly as advertised
I needed something to allow two computers at the end of one CAT5 cable run to connect to the internet from a router, with each computer having its own IP address. A long time ago I had kludged together my own splitter by stripping back the CAT5 cable insulation, isolating the 4 pairs of wires, and installing two pairs to each of two different CAT5 connectors. Like I said, kludge. But that was in the days before Amazon and the proliferation of the handy gadgets and tools that we have today. Now that I need to do the same thing again I was very happy to see that there are now products like this one that are plug and play right out of the package that take about two minutes to hook up ... and that work perfectly. The only difference I can tell right now is a possible slowdown in speed. Without the splitter, using the regular 8-pair CAT5 cable on just one computer, I get a download speed of about 145mbs. With this product connected, I get downloads speeds of about 90mbs on each of the two computers that are sharing the one CAT5 cable.By way of full disclosure, I'm doing this during the virus panic when my provider is throttling Internet service because of all of the work-at-home and staying-home-Netflix-watchers using the Internet these days.I'm very happy with this product.

Perfect! Makes full use of 8 wires in an Ethernet cable. But, there's a hitch.
Perfect! Ethernet cables have 4 pairs of wires. Lower speed (10/100Mbs) Ethernet only requires 2 pairs of wires whereas 1000Mbs (Higher speed) Ethernet uses all 4 pairs. So, if you have a typical (4 pair) Ethernet cable going through a wall, or some other inaccessible place, you have the option of running one high speed Ethernet connection through, or splitting it up into two separate lower speed (10/100Mbs) Ethernet connections. These adapters permit you to convert that single high-speed Ethernet signal path to two lower speed Ethernet signals. The lower speed 10/100Mbs cable works fine for things like printers, video streaming, and really most Ethernet uses. 1000Mbs, however, is handy to use for your main computer if you do gaming or do serious downloading. So, be aware that by using these you're converting a high speed link to two lower speed links, and architect your network layout accordingly. In my case, using this product means that I don't have to run another Ethernet cable through the ceiling - MUCH easier! And the feeds are to my DVD player and my TV - both run perfectly well at 10/100Mbs.If you find that you need to run additional cables next to existing ones, and you can take the speed hit, this may be a GREAT solution!
