Ive been an electronics technician for 30 years, and used a lot of different multimeters. This meter is a good basic handheld unit. The casing is fairly rugged, it has a very bright backlight which is nice, includes case and other accessories, and the meter provides accurate measurements to within about +/- .05 UOM, when compared with my UNI-T benchtop DMM. One function that is a little different from other meters is that to change between DC and AC, you press the "select" button. My one complaint is that the profile of the test lead banana plugs is pretty tall, such that you cannot close the case with them plugged in. Maybe some users do, but I definitely do not unplug my probes when putting my meter away. A lower profile elbow on the banana plugs would solve this problem.

I got this multimeter because I needed something small for school but still wanted a lot of functionality. For the price it's a very good multimeter and gets the job done.I like to manually select which mode I want the multimeter in although it's missing the resistance mode when cycling through manually. I has a continuity mode, but it will only display the resistance if it actually measures continuity (<50 ohms). To measure resistors above that it has to be used in full auto mode where it will quickly detect that you're trying to measure a resistor. The flashlight feature is also extremely dim and not useful at all. Everything else works great.Overall it's an affordable, compact, accurate multimeter with a very long battery life. Can't really complain

This FKM auto-ranging Digital MultiMeter replaced my ancient Radio Shack unit from the 1980's and has been quite a revelation about its ease of use. It's easy to read and so far has been flawless. It could use a better manual but the one that is included is an adequate introduction. A quick trip to Kindle provided many DMM instruction manuals. The provided case is a nice plus that contains the probes and accessories. Recommended!

This is the FKM 188F review. I need to mention that (it is important). The 188F does NOT have the Hold or Torch button on the side , even the Capacitance Button and the Select Buttons ARE MISSING - (Removed) and replaced with a Black Plastic plate covering the three holes where the buttons Should Be. I was disappointed that the meter died with 10 minutes. Now this being said, IF you continue to want this type of meter, you should search for the FKM 188D that does cost more but the BUTTONS ARE ON THAT MODEL (188D). I have both and do like the 188D for a simple cell phone type meter plus the buttons make it SIMPLE to use. You will need simple because the instructions are horrible when it comes to Error Codes or even how to check anything. They assume you know, after all you are purchasing a piece of test equipment. Sadly, a few more pieces of paper in that manual would help not to mention the fact that the 188F model (photos) DO NOT show the Missing Buttons, I assume that is intentional. So what to learn, IMO do not buy the 188F , instead look for the FKM 188D.

I just received the product, and the cellophane containing the multimeter had been cut open, prior to my unpacking the product. See the photo. I take this to be a red flag indicating a high potential that there may be something wrong with the product. I am charging the battery now -- which is taking more time than expected. I will test all of the features and return the item if I find any problems.
