Great splitting axe, however consider the alternative x25 too.
Great Axe. Weight is spread well, and is good to go straight from the pack. However, it does have the longer handle, and at times you can lose dexterity due to the longer handle. It absolutely destroys hardwood rounds, but if regularly working is tighter spaces, the X25 may be a better choice.

Fantastic axe, made light work of 1.5T of wet hardwood
I recently found myself in need of a full-sized axe to split some rounds for firewood. The sizes ranged from 1-2' in diameter, and 10-18" in height. I did a few days of research and agonised over whether a cheap maul would do the job, or if I should buy a "heritage" tool as I'm sure I'll be splitting wood for as long as I am able.In the end, and after reading many reviews, I decided to go for the middle ground (price-wise) and get this axe.I have used it for a few hours now and have enjoyed every minute. While I prefer the romance of a nice wooden handle and old English, hand-forged axe head I couldn't justify the additional cost for my current needs; that being a couple of tonnes of splitting once a year. The axe arrived sharp and I put it to work without any prep of the bit.My first log split in 4 (medium effort) swings (see images). I was later impressed that another large(ish) round was split in a single blow and that it even managed some knotty stuff - although this was harder work, and probably not wise in any case. I tried some really twisted stuff, but left this in the end. While I've used a hatchet for a few years, and full-sized axes a few times in my life, this is the first full-sized axe I've purchased and at 35 years old, 5'7, 12st7lb I found it easy to swing and was able to accurately hit my mark (see image where I tried to hit close to a ridge). Note: Fiskars/ general advice would recommend a slightly smaller axe for my height and strength.I like the feel of wood in the hand, and thought the fibreglass handle on the axe would be a bit of a compromise but it feels nice in the hand, and given the cold weather I've been using it with gloves; this works fine too.I couldn't find any photos online of the profile of the head so have included this. Suffice to say the axe behaves as I understand a maul would, with a shallow angle to the blade; I didn't get the blade stuck in any wood, nor did I need to use wedges to split any of the logs.I bought this axe with my own money for just under £70 and given the 25-year warranty I think it's a great tool that will serve me well for years to come.

The best axe I’ve ever had
Wow love this axe so much. So Moderna me well balanced. I got one for my father in law as his one was old and he says he loves it too. Light weight incredibly sharp and easy to use. Carry case is brilliant as well

Sturdy and effective axe
I have used this axe to split some logs that we had delivered that were too big for the burner. Who knew that splitting logs was so much fun, albeit hard work? As a woman I find this axe easy and safe to use, and it is very effective at splitting logs. I watched the video to perfect my technique and the only problem I have is that I have to do splitting when my menfolk are out otherwise they want to take over and spoil my fun! I have the smaller Fiskars chopping axe and a set of Fiskars extendable loppers. I would not hesitate to recommend this brand as their products are such good quality.

Not perfect, but lots of good surprises and I'm glad I got it
So, in my mind before using this I was imagining that I'd swing this thing and it would go right through my logs unlike my old hickory-handled ax. Sadly this wasn't the case, but that probably says more about me than the ax. What I can report that totally took me by surprise was that it never got stuck! My old ax (not a splitting ax) would get stuck on the first swing, and frequently there was simply no getting it out (which explains the flattened back end that was hit with a hand sledge so many times to just keep going forward). But this ax? Most of the time it would make a nice initial cut and then get pushed out. Once is a while it would stay in the cut and have to be pulled, but the force needed was quite small. This was the source of my *much* more productive splitting: I didn't have to fuss with other tools or trying to wrench the ax out to have another swing. Really, I just kept on a-cuttin'. This alone was worth the price of admission. The ax came already-sharpened and had an interesting head cover. The cover has a rotating lock on it to keep it in place when the ax is wearing it, and it has some thoughtful little touches: there's some raised bits to guide it onto a peg for storage, and the bottom has a ridge that is perfect to keep it from sliding off a ceiling joist if you want to store it by hanging it from a joist in the garage (which is what I do and it works nicely). So why not five stars? I usually only give five when there are only minor issues, but this ax has on minor an one that is a bit more than minor, both having to do with the handle. First, the end of the handle is open, which is kind of odd since the cover has a handle on top that would just about let you use it as a walking stick. But the open end just means it will get packed full of mud, rocks and so forth. Not a huge deal, and if this the only issue I'd give it five stars. The more important one is that I'm not keen on the material the grip is made of-- it seems too slick for my liking. Used with riggers gloves you have a decent grip, and to be fair the end flairs out a bit so that would discourage (but not prevent) it from slipping out of sweaty hands. But though the grip material is clearly made of something a bit different than the rest of the handle, I found it more slick that I would have liked. Besides the gloves, I may find a friction tape of some kind and wrap the handle with that. But, both of these are easy to live with, and the rest of the benefits outweigh these aspects.

Second to none
Everything about this axe is great. I don’t have a problem with vibrations as some people but benefit of the strong and long handle - wow
