Hanna Instruments HI 96822 Refractometer for Measuring Salinity of Natural and Artificial Seawater

I read a lot of reviews about this refractometer. I do not understand what people are unhappy with there. They just never bothered with an ordinary optical one, especially when it lies in every dimension. Hanna is the best thing that ever happened to us. We figured it out very quickly, inserted a battery, immediately calibrated with pure osmosis and immediately measured the water from the aquarium. Everything is clear and simple. We are delighted! Happy husband in the photo! ))))Many thanks to the seller! The devices are working fine, everything is well packed.Delivery was 3 days from Texas to Moscow (Russia) - it's just a delight !!!! Our parcels in Russia do not always arrive so quickly.

I have a fish only tank with live rock, and I upgraded from those junky float meters for salinity, to a 40 dollar refractometer. A couple months went buy and everything was measuring well, but then started getting calibration problems, and the test results would vary slightly. Measurements should be on the money I would imagine, but I Could not get them anymore.I got mad and upset so I bought the HANNA SALINITY checker. Big waste of time and money.I got the unit, and the next morning I did a bunch of different tests on the unit. Followed the instructions exactly, time and time again, I even tried varying the way I tested. I zeroed out the unit, used different test samples, used the same test samples, all brand new, rinsed out syringes, used distilled water, rinsed out the test well on the unit, and even used certified testing fluid.After over a half hour of testing all these variables, in multiple ways, you would think that I would have at least one test reading that was the same???All test results were different, and I don't mean by just one number. I got readings of 24 ppt, to 30, to 31, to 32, 33, 35, 40,41 and so on.....Not impressed at all. Promptly packaged, and returned this unit to amazon.A have 2 apex Jr. Running multiple probes, a huge battery backup setup using 4 deep cycle batteries, aqua illumination led units, 6 foot long tank in my basement, running through the wall into my Sump room.And I still not have found a device that can measure the salt in my system properly, and consistently. Lol lol.Do not buy this unit. I give it 0 stars, not 1 star.Anybody who gives it 5 stars, should do multiple tests, the same way, back to back, and then text me telling me, telling me that it was just my unit that was faulty, or that it was the way that I conducted my tests.I have thousands and thousands of dollars tied up in this marine tank. I take pride in it, and just want a simple way to measure salinity.The quest is on now to buy a Top dollar, precision refractometer that NASA uses. Stopped taking accurate readings.

This refractometer is easy to use. Readings and calibrations are very quick. My only complaint is the rubber feet on the bottom. There are about six of them, and I lost one on the first day I got it. It fell off somewhere. It would be nice if it came with a plastic carrying case. For now, a tupperware container will do.

I keep a saltwater tank. It is my 7th tank. I have gone from swing arm hydrometers (awful) to refractometers (much better) to this. It is expensive but you no longer have to look through a tube to get your readings. I actually bought this as a back up to my refractometer, but now I use this first. Extremely accurate and easy to use. I also think it beats an expensive salinity probe that sits in the tank and has to be calibrated every 2 weeks and eventually replaced.The size is not mentioned in the product description- it is about the size of a shoe.Highly recommended.

Large enough to see the results quickly. Simple to use. I am disappointed they did not include a storage case with the purchase. I double checked the values with my manual salt reader and the Hanna Refractometer worked well.

This is a Milwaukee MA886 rebadged and priced higher. Go with the Milwaukee instead.

much easier than a refractometer. Nice large display. No reagent needed. Just zero with distilled water each time. Just the cost of two high end Frags.
