Ordered Saturday, Arrived Sunday. I had trouble getting a CAT6 cable individual ends into a normal RJ45 Plug. Possibly due to the small working area between the sheath end and the ends of the wires using the thicker 23 AWG. Thought I would try out the Pass-Thru plugs. So ordered the Klein Plugs and this Klein Crimper tool. Must mention that I am happy wiring Cat5 and Cat5e using normal plugs. My problems arose with the CAT6 cable. Perhaps, I suspect, because my CAT6 cable is 23 AWG, and by the way it also has a central Twisted Pair separator inner running through the cable. Anyway when it arrived I straight away dived into plugging my CAT6 cable. I had read the reviews regarding being unable to wire the thicker AWG cable so had that in mind when setting things up. Eventually, after about 40 minutes of faffing about trying different things and perhaps reducing the length of my cable by about a foot I plumbed for forgetting about the 1and 1/2 inch or 2 inch measurements from the end of the sheath to the wire ends and went for 4 inches approx which meant I could work on the wire ends only and not worry about the sheath end after I realised I could just pull them through when I had them in the proper order and they were passed-through the plug. The wire ends, or wire tips, have to be jammed tight close to each other, no daylight between the wires going into the plug and then slowly passed into the plug. Once you have jiggled a little bit and they look in order, with no wire having jumped on top of another, etc. Then you can push more firmly to get the wires engaged into their proper channels. Re-check again, as best you can. Then push more firmly and positively and they will go through. Then I pull on all the wires which are through and feed and work the sheath into the plug, it does go in, past the crimp position. Once through and happy they are in the correct colour order I then pull each pair, by original colour twist order, then pull on each wire individually with a small pair of pliers, just to take up any slack on the wires inside the plug between the sheath and the wire ends. Re-push sheath to ensure still fully in position. The second plug was done in about 15 minutes. I concentrated on the wire ends and working them constantly to get them very close together before even attempting to try to put them into the plug. Tip - Re-cut if the wires ends are not all in line with each other. I fully expect to get this time down the more I use these plugs. By the way once I had the actual wires through in correct order it was so easy to use and crimped perfectly and also cut the wire ends off the plug. Nice job. Will be using Pass-Thru for CAT6 and thicker cabling without a shadow of doubt. Negative is the wire stripper, waste of time. Too bulky a tool to maintain constant pressure for a sheath cut and turn the tool around the cable, tool is too bulky for that. Use a separate sheath cutter. This review is mainly about the pass-through plugs I suppose but that is where the pain is in wiring CAT6 23 AWG. You would still have that pain and more with normal plugs. But pass-through plugs helps immensely by giving you more wire to work with. The Crimp tool works fine, does the crimping part very well. Not tested on any other type of pass-through plugs. Only done 2 RJ45 plugs - but very pleased with this pass-through system (mainly because I have never, ever, managed to get my CAT6 23 AWG cable into any normal Cat 6 RJ45 plug successfully - amateur, I know)

After realizing my old crimp tool was not as good as it once was I decided to pay the extra and buy a more upmarket version. The tool is a pleasure to use, it is solid and has a good feel and action to it. so far it has not made a bad connection and crimps the connectors with ease. Although it does cost more than the cheaper versions after using it for some time, I would say the speed of use and accuracy of the tool reduces potential rework and will in the long run save time and in turn money. If you are looking for a new RJ45 tool I would strongly recommend this one.

After transitioning to an MSP role, I quickly realized that budget tools don't cut it in the field. This Klein crimper is a night-and-day difference; the ratcheting action is so incredibly smooth you’ll wonder if it even finished the crimp until you see the perfect results. It trims pass-through wires flush and handles Cat5e with ease. It’s built like a tank and far more ergonomic than cheaper alternatives, making it a pleasure to use during long days on-site. My only minor regret was not getting the shielded version for specific buckle restraints, though I’ve found workarounds with pliers. I did notice that with thicker Cat6/7 cables, you need to be precise with your plug selection to ensure the wires don't jump channels in the connector, but the tool itself is flawless. I’m so impressed with the reliability that I’ve already started switching the rest of my bag to Klein. Highly recommended for any serious tech.

Very good quality crimpers. No problems with all terminations made using fairly cheap connectors. The cable colours are on both sides of the tool which gives you confidence when terminating. Nice ratcheting feature gives you confidence you have crimped with enough pressure. The tool is very compact and easy to use. Not sure why it says they can not be used with non pass through connectors.

Very nice tool to the addition but the blade got blunt after 50 cat5e ends. Still cuts however it needs some help to cut off.

I initially bought a Klien tools crimper that was not for pass through use and therefore it did not automatically cutoff excess cables after crimping. Too hard to cut by hand so I got this model instead. I’ve only done a few cables so far and it feels very well made. Love the wire cutting and stripping ability. I use pass through RJ45 connectors with this and the crimping action is ratcheted and hence easily properly secures the cables to the connector. I love the pass through connectors as it’s much easier to check that the individual wires have stayed in the right order. Once crimped, and excess cable is cutoff cleanly, tidily and easily. Very good tool. Feels solidly well made and has been a delight to use. I can’t fault it.

Having wasted nearly as much money as this single tool cost on two cheaper 'kits' I can say that I would have been better going for this quality item from the outset. This is a really nicely built tool that feels like a quality item as soon as you start using it. The cable stripper actually just strips the outer sheath (without cutting conductors), there is a handy - and readable - wiring colour chart right on the jaws and it makes perfect crimps every time. It's tempting to be drawn in by the cheaper kits but, in my experience, you will end up throwing away a lot of time - and badly made connectors. When you've spent a day running a CAT6 cable through walls and floors and all that stands between you and a reliable connection is the crimping tool then you'll be thankful you got this one - and not the cheaper one, which results in an ever-shortening cable (as you cut of numerous bad connectors - just hoping the next will be good). If you really need the other extras these kits include - such as a tester or punch-down tool - then these can be bought relatively cheaply. You really do get what you pay for and, with this tool, the cost feels totally justified. Team it up with some quality pass-through connectors and save yourself a ton of time - and probably money - over the 'cheaper' option.

Avevo provato altra crimpatrice considerato il prezzo di questa. Rimandata indietro subito. La toglierina non funzionava i cavi crimpati male oltre ad essere il lavoro davvero “sporco”. Così decido di comprarla. Che dire , alla prima prova lavoro perfetto e funzionante,cosa che con l’altra nemmeno avendolo rifatto 4 volte. Altro suggerimento,comprate gli spinotti della stessa marca,altro mondo.

Après avoir utilisé le produit similaire vendu par Amazon. (2 mille + notes / note 4.x et ayant des résultats peu fiables. De nombreuses tentatives et nécessitant de refaire les sertissages pour obtenir une connexion solide, j'ai été extrêmement satisfait de ce produit. Mécanisme à cliquet, assure une connexion solide et complète. La bande et la coupe incorporées sont très pratiques et précises. Les schémas de câblage des deux côtés de l’outil constituent une confirmation infaillible. Les connecteurs sont un peu plus chers que la marque XXX, mais valent le coût compte tenu du gain de temps et de la fiabilité. Fabriqué aux États-Unis ou en Chine... encore une fois, un prix inférieur ne signifie pas toujours un meilleur rapport qualité-prix. Je recommande fortement ce produit

Tenía una crimpadora de toda la vida de calidad, pero cuando descubrí los conectores "pass through", vi que era otro nivel: se acabaron los errores, y conexiones de calidad. Pero hacía falta una crimpadora que estuviera a la altura, y después de leer muchos comentarios me decanté por esta. No es barata, pero el dinero invertido por ahora merece la pena hasta al último céntimo. Es robusta y pesa lo suyo con lo que se nota que no es plástico ni materiales de poca monta. La cuchilla corta a la perfección, y si eliges unos conectores RJ45 medio buenos (en mi caso los he comprado VCE Link) te garantizas unas conexiones de cobre muy buenas. Sin ir más lejos, unos cables crimpadoshace años, y para mi decentes , no pasaba el test de velocidad de los 80 - 110 Mpbs...ha sido cambiar solo los conectores RJ45 y casi 400 Mpbs...con esto está todo dicho. No soy profesional de la materia, pero si te puedes permitir gastarte este dinero, te ahorras dolores de cabeza, conexiones que siempre te van a funcionar y como puedes apurar la longitud mínima del cable, puedes ganar en perdidas de conexión que con una crimpadora estándar no puedes. Si me la tuviera que comprar, no lo dudaría lo más mínimo. Muy contento con la compra.

Worked flawlessly on the first try. I made two cat6 cables quickly without any mistakes. This review is 4.5 stars (or maybe between 4.5 and 5) but Amazon only allows whole-stars. I decided on 5 because 4 is too low. The tool feels sturdy and the mechanism is firm but not tight (perfect). This is the first time I've used a ratcheting crimper, and I'm a fan over non-ratcheting crimpers (though it's been decades since I last crimped any RJ45 connectors). The sheath-cutter works surprisingly well, though you should always inspect the individual wires to see if you have cut their sheaths as well. If you have large hands, this tool will feel small, but there is no issue using it. This tool seems like it would be equally easy to use for right-handers and left-handers, though each would likely choose a different grip (thumb near the fulcrum for left-handers, thumb near the end of the handle for right-handers). This tool really is great, I only have a few small issues. My only real complaint about this tool is that it can't be closed for storage. It's got a ratcheting handle so you can clamp-down on the connector during crimping, but then it always springs back to its fully-open position. Imagine having to store all your scissors in the "X position" (open) rather than the "Y position" (closed). I guess I'll just get some twine to hold it closed when it's in the drawer. There is a "safety override" knob on the handle. It's labelled "override" on the tool and the instruction card helpfully clarifies that as a "safety override", and it's used to allow you to release the ratchet before it's reached it's final position. I kinda feel like the solution to the "won't stay closed" problem could have been solved using this same knob, but rotated in the other direction, perhaps. When inserting the RJ46 connector into the tool for crimping, the connector does not lock like it would, say, in an actual Ethernet connection. This means that you have to ensure that you really, REALLY made sure to push the connector all the way in, and that it doesn't move at all as you perform the crimp. The crimping operation does not push the connector either way, so you SHOULD be okay, but you are on your own to ensure proper alignment. The "crimp nest" appears to be a separate die-cast component and could easily have been designed to have a clip to ensure proper and steady positioning. This crimper unfortunately comes with no connectors, and the bundle with connectors is an extra $15 for 50 connectors. I decided to buy much cheaper connectors and they worked perfectly fine. I kinds thing think this too should come with some really small number of connectors, like maybe 4. Otherwise you have to buy a lot of them if you only need a few. I suppose if you are buying a crimping tool, you are not interested in making just one or two cables, but at least it would let you get a sense of what quality connectors you would need to buy, or to compare to others you might find. The wiring diagrams directly on the tool are great, but they are stickers. I suspect they will wear-off over time. Anything that won't last the life of the tool isn't really worth much. Sure, you can find the wiring pattern on the internet, but having it on the tool is SUPER nice. The instructions tell you to strip between 1.5" - 2" of the sheathing which I found to be way more than necessary, but it depends upon the type of connector and a few other factors. In my case, I decided to start conservatively and cut a full 2" off the end, and ended up with 3/4" or more of discard wire pieces being sheared-off during the crimp (which is the point of the "pass-thru" design). That seemed to me like a lot of waste. In one instance, the outer wires weren't completely cut during the crimp/shear operation, but I could just twist them off the end of the connector after I removed it from the tool. I think the blade could afford to be 1/16" wider or so. The instructions don't make this suggestion, but after you have straightened each of the individual wires for insertion into the connector, I would recommend trimming them all flush to make the placement easier. The cutter doesn't look like it would work well for this, but it does: just put the wires across the oddly-angled center of the tool and close the jaws. It looks like there is plenty of space to lose stray cut-ends of wire into this tool. I've only had it for 24 hours so I haven't had much opportunity to fill it up with junk and have to clean it. There are 3 pins holding the two faces of the tool together, and each of the 3 has a retaining ring on it, so I'm optimistic about the serviceability of this tool. Had them been rivets or some other permanent fastener, I'd be less optimistic.
