I have never given a review this bad, but for the price I would have expected better from this camera. One of my biggest gripes is with the so-called zoom, which takes you from an acceptable wide angle shot to a heavily pixelated and distorted tele one. Even in bright light, the zoom is only usable through half of its range. Another noticeable shortcoming of this camera is its "automatic" focus, which struggles mightily at the best of times. Patience will be tried if you're expecting this feature to give a snappy response; in fact, patience is required at all times with this dressed-up toy as lag is ever present. Even taking a simple still shot requires you to depress the shutter button, and keep it depressed till this electronic farce tells you the shot has been downloaded to the memory card. I imagine my SanDisk 128GB Extreme micro card was patiently twiddling its tiny little thumbs while waiting for something to happen. The slo-mo video I took at 3/4 zoom of a hummingbird feeding was choppy and poor resolution. I took a short time-lapse of birds at my bird feeders, and it was like a night club scene. Virtually every shot had a different exposure, making for a strobe-like effect. The only realm this shooter did not miserably fail at was that of well-lit single shots at short to moderate distance - and that's me being kind. I don't vlog (God help me!) so I can't comment on whether or not this product would be of any use, and as a first camera for a kid I can think of many better choices - and most of them make phone calls in addition to taking photos and videos. Did I mention that this camera refuses to connect to my Windows 10 laptop? And it gets hot while being used for a while. The plethora of features this camera boasts of do not signify a similar return in quality.
