Would this be too short to use over a counter height tabke? I don't want the lamp to be right at peoples heads.

I think it will be too short for a counter especially if you have people sitting on counter stools. This is perfect for over the sofa or a reading corner or chair.

Very bright to a night light. You set the brightness as well as the tone - soft yellow or daylight tone. It’s a great lamp and we love the remote option that allows you to select the brightness as well as the tone.
