Good but no limit switches! Must buy & install
No limit switches. Bought a set from Geeks at large. You must read all manuals. Must install the light burn device driver! Great unit for the price $299, 20 watt.

Inexpensive, full of features and super powerful at 20W
I purchased the Phecda directly from the manufacturer because at the time it was significantly more expensive. This is my 6th LED laser cutter and I found out the hard way it doesn't pay to try and upgrade your existing laser with a more powerful laser head: the mechanical and electrical intricacies make it a risky proposition, and also prices for separate laser heads are astronomical (often more than a complete laser cutter). But I digress. Suffice to say I'm not on my first laser cutter so I can backup my five star rating and explain why I like this cutter so much compared to the others.First, the design: while the two axis side rail-mounted belt driven gantry is common to pretty much all of these engraving machines, it uses a very innovative gantry-mounted air extractor and filter along with an acrylic shield that doubles as an air tunnel. Think of it as a mini enclosure that moves around with a suction head attached to it, instead of having to use an enclosure. Mind you, I still wouldn't call it smoke free, but compared to other cutters it's really day and night. The built-in safeties are a must: it can detect fires and motion or tilting, and will immediately stop the machine. There are also plenty of other niceties, such as the magnetically attached acrylic shield, the air assist (included with the 20W model, I paid a hundred bucks for an air assist pump for my previous cutter!), or the focus gauge built into the laser head, allowing you to easily adjust the height to the material. One con, compared to fancier models, it doesn't have limit switches. Those are used to precisely home the laser, which is a must if you want to use the camera feature of Lightburn. Fear not! Geeks-at-large offers a very inexpensive kit that for thirty bucks adds all four limit switches (I installed it on mine, took twenty minutes and it works great).Of course, adding a camera is easy and there are plenty of inexpensive choices. Now, like all these inexpensive laser cutters... Some assembly is required. However it's very simple and well explained in the manual, assembly takes roughly a half hour if you really take your time. Finally, you need to factor in the software. Pretty much everybody I know uses Lightburn, it's inexpensive, easy to learn and runs on Mac, Windows and Linux. One license allows you to run on three computers of any type and the license manager allows you to move licenses around as needed.I think this machine really hits the sweet spot of power, capabilities, and price. Yes, you can find machines with the same power that have fancy enclosures with built-in cameras, custom software that hold your hand through the entire process. For me as an occasional hobbyist, I actually appreciate having a compact machine I can put away easily (compared to a massive cumbersome enclosure that pretty much needs its own space) and the considerable amounts of money I saved and in the end getting the exact same results.I initially wrote this review because I was searching Amazon to see if Elegoo had come up with a more powerful version, and found that the only rating it had was a completely unfair one star. I wanted to correct this injustice with a fair and honest review.
