Perfect travel video tripod
If you're in a studio or not carrying your tripod around much then obviously you'd want to go for something sturdier, but full on video tripods tend to be big, heavy and a bit unwieldy. For something that can easily be carried around and still get the job done, this is perfect. The legs are more like a typical photography tripod so really it's the levelling base and fluid head that makes this a video tripod. They're about as minimal as I think I'd want to go, but they're great quality and absolutely up to the job. Using the same type of legs as a photo tripod and a fairly small head does mean there's a bit more movement to it than there would be with a full, non-travel video tripod but it should be obvious that that's the compromise you have to accept for portability and light weight. Once it's set up it's actually sturdier than I expected, as long as you don't go to the full height. If you don't need to move the camera during filming it'll stand up to a bit of wind easily and if you do then as long as you're slow and gentle with your movements it's really very usable.Build quality is really good. On a par with a decent photography tripod. I like the twist lock legs, I like the way it folds up so small, I like the materials and I like the carry case.I wouldn't choose it over a big heavy tripod in normal circumstances but for an easily portable travel tripod it's excellent and as such it absolutely lives up to its claims. If you're looking to take a video tripod somewhere you wouldn't typically be able to lug one, this is great.

Excellent travel tripod, great design features, premium build quality
£134 at time of reviewWhilst I have been buying SmallRig gear for years, I’ve never used one of their tripods, so was keen to try this out, as everything I own of theirs is superb quality and always well thought out and designed… and as expected this is no different. The ideal travel tripod has to solve three main problems, be small enough to pack in carry on luggage, be light weight, still be sturdy enough when extended to be of actual use! This ticks those three boxes no problem, yes fully extended up to eye level it’s a little unstable, but that’s to be expected, you’re not going to use it at the level often.Having moved over to “bowl base” on my two main video tripods a few years ago, it makes levelling in any situation so quick and easy, once you use it you’ll never want to use a tripod without it, even if you’re just doing stills photography. This works in a different way to my other ones, but it’s still very quick and easy to use, and works very well.Detaching one leg to use as a monopod has become a standard amongst travel tripods, and this one is very good. Having the foam grip on the tripod is also a useful feature, surprising how many don’t have it, it’s essential when you’re somewhere that’s cold and icy.You can get down to 45cm at it’s lowest setting, to get lower you’ll need to remove and reverse the middle extension, not a huge issue, depends how often you need to get really low. There’s a 1/4” thread on the side of the head, and another between the top hinges of the legs, which are great for adding filed monitors or battery packs etcBuild quality as I mentioned is excellent, it’s all metal, yet it’s still very light, coming in at less than 2kg, that’s impressive!Hope my review was helpful

But is it really a video tripod?
I own video tripods. They are heavy and bulky with huge multi-strut legs. However, this is different. The concept is simple - take a photo tripod, make it extend ridiculously tall (189cm) and stick some sort of fluid head on it. So how does it compare?** The Good **I will start by saying its well made - because it is. The size this thing packs down to is at least 1/4 the size of my video tripods. Weight wise, its a similar story. Very impressive. The fluid head is...... fine. Its small and compact and gets the job done. The carry case is also lovely.** The less good **- The main thing here is that whenever you extend something up that high its going to wobble unless its a really sturdy set of legs...... like an orthadox video tripod. So you do get some wobble if you go high and honestly with my mirrorless camera up there, I dont feel confident the tiniest knock wont send it tumbling to the floor.- The second thing is the weight tolerance - it will take 4kg which sounds like a lot but camera + lens + any rigging and you're pushing it - and that assumes you use a small mirrorless camera. Stick and FX6 on here and its game over.** A good buy or good bye? **It depends. If you need to go above 140cm, get a proper video tripod. If you are using serious video equipment - get a proper video tripod. If however you are going somewhere where you just cannot carry a full tripod (like hiking) and are comfortable not extending this up to its ful height, its a very compelling lightweight option

Sturdy and can hold heavy gear
I am very impressed with the quality of the SMALLRIG 72" Video Tripod as it is very sturdy I've been able to use it with my DSLR camera and a variety of lenses without any issues. It's been able to hold my gear that weighs about 3kg without any issues. The only thing that I did need to use was a bigger plate to have a better balance with is fluid head. The spike feet is also a great plus when I need to use it in muddy and uneven terrain.

Stable and good quality
I got this as my son is a keen photographer and loves to spend time outdoors taking photos.I love that it comes with a decent carry bag and is therefore easy to take out and about. The stability is always something to be aware of and we’ve found that this is very good in that respect. The weight is ideal too, as one doesn’t want to be carrying too much weight around on days out taking photographs. As my son likes to sit out taking astrophotography this has proved very useful.

Tolle, robuste Stativ!

Consiglio
