Answers to my questions!!
This little book explained reading crochet patterns in a clear and concise way. I avoided crochet patterns because following a patternWas so hard to find and written in obscure language. I will avoid them no more!

Review of this book.
This book was fabulous! I learned so much from it. I also learned some exciting new patterns. I cannot wait to try making some afgans for my bed, as well as afgans for the beds of my family. The different patterns were really beautiful and the color schemes were also quite lovely.

Lots of information
The print is rather small. The pictures can be to light to actually visualize the stitches.

Awesome for beginners
As a recent self-taught crocheter, this book is a great one to have in your collection. The photos are beautiful, as Nicki has chosen a color pallette that makes you want to try the project. She rates her wide variety of projects as 'beginner', 'improver' and 'enthusiast'. I love doing small projects that show success sooner rather than later, and there are plenty here. Although I bought it for the jar toppers on the cover, I have already made the mug warmer, toy ball[baby bouncers] for babies(actually made a bowlful for decor purposes),egg cozies, and now will do washcloths and teddybears! Fun and great teaching book for crochet.

Misleading title - not worth the cost
Should have read the reviews. The book is not centered on reading Charts and Graphs. In fact it barely brushes on the subject. The Chart reference is based on minimal hand scribbled chart symbols that are poorly done, and the written description doesn't even fit the chart. Save your money.Look for anything by Robin Chachula or Shannon Mullett-Bowlsby (just to mention a few that I found), as I have since found both do a much better job of explaining charts just in the course of their pattern books. The best one though, was a DVD by Chachula "Unexpected Crochet Stitches for Afghans and Beyond". Ignore the Afghans reference, this is about beginner to intermediate colorworks, cable, tunisian and lace stitches -- and most importantly - CHARTS! She breaks down chart reading in each section and even teaches you how to figure out exactly what the specific stitch involves just from reading the chart symbol. Found this on Amazon, released in 2012 by Interweave. She also references the book (although all referenced patterns are available to print from the DVD) "Unexpected Afghans" (Amazon), which uses clearly printed charts and graphs that match the accompanying pattern directions.I'm sure you can find other designers that use charting and explain it well in the course of their books. Skip this Wilks book. Costs too much to return it, we're throwing it out.

Lots of info in a small book
Very detailed; however photos were in black and white, sometimes a bit difficult to see the stitch. However, detailed charts and line per line explanation. A good reference.
