A little touchy, but works good.
This dmx dongle works in Freestyler and qlight + using open dmx as the selected input. Was concerned initially about it's functionality for my needs, but if you just want something quick and dirty to control dmx, then this unit is for you. I have been exploring the world of dmx lighting and this little adapter has not let me down. I have experienced the ocassional glitch with it freezing up, but I believe it was the command the software was sending to the controller and not the device it's self. I would recommend if you are on a budget and want something that works.

Who knew DMX could be so cheap? I didn’t.
Not for the faint of heart: there are no instructions and no drivers included but if you google “DIY USB DMX Interface” you will find enough information to get the dongle running. I had to install D2XX drivers from the ftdichip website but the dongle is working on a windows 7 and a windows 10 machine. Freestyler X2 works well with this interface. QLC+ 5alpha works well but keeps crashing. QLC+ 4 doesn’t crash as much but the lights kept flicking; this may be a frame rate issue.

"Enttec Open" class device for limited use
This is one example of a class of interfaces under the "open" banner. That is, it does not have an internal processor for DMX timing of packets. Your computer and software must be capable of providing the timing. This is opposed to, say, the DMX King interfaces or other Enttec models. You will pay more for those (up from $70), but they are designed for professional use. Most of your freeware software should recognize this device as "Enttec Open".In testing with our Cue Player software, the device works fine and based on initial timings, I would expect it to work up to 126 channels on a recent vintage (>2017) Windows 10 PC. No experience with Macs. You do have to fault the total lack of any documentation, however.

Didn’t work after a lot of effort
Attempted to use with QLC+ on both macOS and Win10, usb device was recognized on both machines, would not communicate with Monoprice Par-575 Stagelight or Chauvet Derby fixtures. On macOS would get a flash of light, then dark. On Win10 appeared to be communicating, one red light, flashing green light. Manual Mac driver installation to match chip ID from FTDI website made no differenceTried to save some money, wasted some time.

5 stars for price and that it works.
Edit: I have been using these for many years and for a simple setup with maybe up to 20 fixtures, it has worked fine. I connect it to a wireless dmx transmitter. I just ordered some more to have spares, I am a multi-op who runs multiple DJ systems and I depend on these for quality dmx transmission. I have noticed when the computer is doing multiple things and connecting to WiFi, sometimes will get random dropouts and signal loss, but it seems that is also associated with the computer and windows trying to update it's mandatory antivirus which uses a lot of CPU. For general use, especially without using wifi internet, depending on the computer these should be flawless and usually are for me.I used with Freestyler and it worked fine if I used the setup option for the JMS USB2DMX in Freestyler setup. After restarting FS it worked fine and that is a good thing. It took a while for me to figure out which option to choose. But it worked fine after that. The blue light is bright and annoying, I will agree, but a $.01 piece of black electrical tape around it works wonders.

Works fine with Pyserial on Linux!
I bought this for use with some python scripts, and it seems to work very reliably. No drivers needed or anything like that.
