Not only do I like gadgets, I like measuring things, both as a means of better understanding the world and myself; measurements, taken accurately, are objective. But I’m not a scientist or looking for scientific precision either.Enter the Mustfuyi Decibel Meter. The meter is simple to use and has a readable range from 30 to 130 DB. It is powered by the standard, age-old 9V rectangular battery, conveniently provided by the seller. The LCD screen is large enough to be read without difficulty, where all available settings are displayed as symbols, and can be backlit if needed. The meter can be set to take readings in either of two modes, fast or slow. Fast mode has a response time of 125 milliseconds with a resolution of 0.1db, too fast to be registered by sight. However, the meter can tell you the minimum and maximum readings with the push of a button with an accuracy of 1.5db, more than accurate enough for my usage. There is also a hold button to pause the reading, and at the bottom of the LCD screen a visual representation, shown as bars, of loudness.A foam windsock is provided for more accurate readings of the sound source of interest when using the meter outside. The meter shuts off automatically after 10-minutes, a feature that can be disabled if so wished. It has ribbed rubber grips on each side and is comfortable in the hand. It is 7” in length. Although it can be balanced to stand vertically, it isn’t stable due to a lip on the rear side battery cover that protrudes over that end. It would have been nice that an accessory was provided that allowed the meter to be used in the vertical position, since logically, receiving sound from 360-degrees would seem the most accurate; or, simply change the product design so that is has a stable bottom that would allow it to be placed upright. It would seem the seller has assumed that the meter would be used handheld or on a tripod; for that means of support 1/4” threads are built into the back, just above the battery cover. I suppose carrying a small, table top tripod is not too much of an inconvenience. There is also a built-in flashlight on the back; once the meter is turned on, short presses of the meter’s on/off button turn it on/off.In any case, the Mastfuyi Decibel Meter is a useful device with many applications, not the least of which is fun; you’d be amazed at how much sound there is when you’re perceiving silence. It is entirely made of hard plastic and rubber, except for the metal stem of the microphone protruding from the top, and gives the impression of being robust under normal usage. It comes supplied with a zippered, nylon carry case and an accurate, simple to read and understand instruction manual.

The media could not be loaded.  I got this for use in reviewing products on Amazon so I could state how loud something is.While I do not have any way to tell if this sound meter is accurate (i.e., when it says a sound is 79.5 decibels and the sound is actually 79.0 or 80.0), it has been consistent with itself in my usage. If it has a higher number, the sound is louder and if it has a lower number, the sound is softer. The attached gives a good feel for what it is like to use the sound meter.When the meter starts up, it is in instantaneous sound level mode. Pressing the slow-fast button once, slows down the readings so you can read them, pressing it again puts it back in instantaneous mode.Pressing the max-min button once sets it in a mode where it only tells you what the maximum sound level it has heard is. Pressing it again will tell you what the minimum sound level it has heard is. Pressing the button a third time puts it back in instantaneous mode.Pressing the hold button once (quickly) holds the current value indefinitely. Pressing it a second time quickly puts it back in instantaneous mode.While I didn't show it in the video, if you press the hold button for 3-seconds, it will turn on a backlight for the screen. And if you press the "on" button quickly after the meter is already on, there is a small light on the back of the case that turns on, then off again with another quick press. A 3-second press turns the whole device on or off.The unit is powered by a 9V battery.

Good Gadget to play with especially for the price

I have been looking for a way to determine just how loud some of my tools are (I think they're VERY loud, but no one else really seems to notice if they're not in my shop with me)This took a little bit of time to get set up and learn how to work it, but once done, it was very easy to use.The whole device is easy to hold, not too heavy, and accurate within a couple db.This is also good if you're trying to convince your teenager that they're too loud while playing video games.

This item is very easy to use without reading the instructions that come along with it. I use it to monitor anything around the house that might be too loud where I might want to use hearing protection. I also use it for general curiosity. Accurate readings in a small compact unit that is easy to read. Backlit display allows for easy viewing at night and a handy storage case as well. This is, in my opinion, is cheap insurance/investment to buy for your hearing protection. Highly recommend.

This decibel meter is perfect for the data-loving nerd in me! It's like a tiny science experiment in my hand. I wander around the house measuring everything from the hum of the fridge (around 40 dB) to the racket of the blender (easily over 90 dB). It's surprisingly accurate, and the little backlight makes it easy to read in any light. Sure, it might not be the most glamorous gadget, but for under $20, it's a fun way to geek out on the world around you.

This is a good, inexpensive audio decibel meter. It does read quite quick to the point where the LCD display may get blurry if the audio levels vary greatly. This meter features high and low holds, which is really useful for capturing peaks and lows. The microphone seems to be very directional, which works well when trying to acquire audio samples from a specific source while rejecting other sources. The threaded base allows this to be mounted on a tripod for long term sampling. Battery life is very long. Great product for measuring audio levels indoors or outdoors.
