Excellent HVAC book
This is a great book.I must say i knew very little about HVAC, and with this book i now have a little more insight of the world of HVAC.I would like the book to have a bit more math in it, but then again it is a very practical book and probably it's best not to have that much math... Not really sure on this, as i haven't work, until so far, in the HVAC industry - i hope to work one day, though (Mechanical Engineer here). It states some few equations as if they are universal truths and does not explain where they've came from. One may want to know where they've came from, and in this book he won't find the answer to it. This may or may not be a negative point, depending on the reader; personally, i would rather have those equations explained, but it is a personal matter. I think that despitie this point, the book still deservers 5 stars, if not 6.If you are interested on learning more about how to estiamte HVAC loads, this is not the right book for you.The book is not heavy on math by any means and so you won't find mass balances in it neither energy balances (apart from one or two examples, in which the author uses the realation q = m cp (delta T)). Evolutions of the air within AHU and the different process the air may go to are also not explained (it assumes you are already familiarized with them from previous thermodynamic courses or so).I think that this book is a very practical book and i love the approach the author gives, explaining all in a very clear manner, but i also think that if you do not have any background whatsoever in Mech Engineering (and even if you have it), you need more than this book to really understand somethings in the world of HVAC, such as:- the evolutions of the air within both the AHU and Terminal Units- how to estimate HVAC loads- understand more about latent heat within the zones and its implications- predict the outdoor air requirements for ventilation (the autor gives more emphasis to VAV systems and in that sense it basically refers that the outdoor air requirements are 30% of the maximum air requirements, which is ok, but one would like to know more about this, probably)Bottom line, the book is excellent, really a 5 star book, but the world of HVAC is just that big. So, it is impossible to have it all in just one "small" book. According the approach the author has chosen to follow, the book is awesome nevertheless. As a last note: i have two more books about HVAC and i think that this one is the best one and therefore i won't ever get rid of it. Like i have said above, the other two books touch points that this one doesn't and thus i won't get rid of them as well.Hope to help you with my review.

Definitely worth the money
So far from what I have read I would recommend this book to any entry level mechanical designer/engineer in the hvac industry. It is extremely useful with little bits of knowledge that may take longer for you to figure out by just learning on the job since most the work you will be doing out of school is project specific. This is a great guide to keep at your desk. The only down side to this book is the pictures are black and white. Would have been perfect if they were in color.

Good book but make sure it is what you are looking for
The book is good for what it is. Unfortunately it was not what I was looking for and the description was not that useful to help me decide better before I bought it. It is too expensive to just keep.

IF you are relativly new to the HVAC design profession ...
IF you are relativly new to the HVAC design profession, GET THIS BOOK. One year into HVAC engineering, I discovered this book and read it cover to cover. Everything I learned in a year was summed up in this book and more. It does not contain formulas, but there are other books for that resource such as the ASHRAE Handbooks. This book has the practical understanding with schematic illustrations. If you are thinking about purchasing this book, THINK NO LONGER! Get it. It is worth it.

A boiler room can be very complexe. This book ...
A boiler room can be very complexe. This book identifies what you can find in a boiler room and simplifies the basic operation of each component.

Elementary HVAC content
This book is mostly a general overview of HVAC subjects. It's a good book if you want to learn how a system works in general terms, but very poor for the engineer. Theory and equations are largely missing.

Books can be lemons too
The title doesn't actually represent the information therein. If you want a general HVAC book then anyone will do. But why spend more than you have to? After you read this book from front to back, you'll be able to design an ice cube. I changed my rating from one star to three because I value the work that goes into making an actual book but this one will end up collecting dust. Best case scenario, you'll sell it back to Amazon for approximately half the price that you bought it.
