Works as needed. I have used both the gigabit and 100 Mbps with no issue or performance drop. Cheap and easy to install.

Very good solution for lightning protection!
We operate two of these inexpensive ethernet to optical converters back-to-back for lightning protection. We are a radio station with a 1200 foot tower nearby which gets hit by lightning often. Previously we had several modems, two computers, and three routers and switches blown out by some of the lightning charge coming in on our cable service. These boxes, connected by a 6 foot optical cable, are between our modem and the router. The system works fine, with no effect on performance. Now only the modem and one of these converters will be at risk, and we have spares.

Steady and Reliable
I have used pairs of these devices in several locations between buildings and where runs inside a building had to exceed the 100 meter limit of copper Ethernet. All of them have been rock-solid reliable. My only complaint is a small one. For this price I wish they were Gigabit and not just 10/100, but that in NO way reflects the quality of the product. I've also used StarTech products for carrying T-1 signal over fiber, too, which were just as good as their Ethernet products. Seems everything we've used from this manufacturer has been very good. No idea on how long they last, but our own experience is currently almost 5 years and counting.

Used for replacement of older failed unit (no longer manufactured) on existing fiber building-to-building link. Plug and play with installed gear. Simple, no messing around. Works.

MAKE ANOTHER SELECTION. NOT AS ADVERTISED
This is a clearly inferior product. Fiber connection was loose and there is no warranty. By the time I discovered that it was NOT what I believed it was, the time to return had passed. (Look for this on EBay soon at a discount price). Definitely MAKE ANOTHER SELECTION.
