Running DOES Suck!
I have always been that kind of person that wouldn't workout unless I could do at least an hour of cardio. I've always LOVED to exercise and even ran for years, but as I've grown older my knees have stopped loving to run. In fact, for the last several months I had stopped doing my regular hour of cardio, because of my knee pain and just got in some cardio where I could fit it in. Well, guess what! I was losing weight! Without trying, without doing a monotonous hour on the treadmill....weird, right? So, I started doing some research looking for a reason this was happening. That's when I came upon Jennifer's book, and, boy, she had me at the title. LOL!! I love the fact that she doesn't give you tons of science on why it works (just enough), and I love the fact that she gets right to the subject and gives you several options to make it happen. Her writing style is wonderful....easy to understand and funny! Like you finally got one of your skinny girlfriends to sit down and tell you her secrets!! After reading this book, I also bought "The Ultimate Diet Book". Running DOES suck, but Jennifer ROCKS!

Great little booklet for the "down and dirty" on non-running running
Others have already stated that this booklet is basically a review of HIIT (high intensity interval training) and Tabata Protocol. That's true, but she actually makes those methods very simple and understandable (for those who don't have to research everything to-death, who just want the "how-to"). And she throws in some bonus material, which makes it more than that (simple nutrition advice, supplement advice, things to avoid - aspartame and MSG primarily, how drinking water/liquids with meals can sabotage your healthy efforts, etc). She pulls together a lot of new research and tells it the way she believes to be most helpful. I've bought less info packaged in a lot more words, for more money. I recommend this book for anyone who wants a clear and concise, quick and easy read of some of the best health and fitness advice out there today. The nutritional advice is also right in line with a lot of the latest advice circulating now, but boiled down to a very do-able package. She only recommends two "supplements" over and above your vitamins - and one of them is simply cinnamon. Most books on this subject will recommend enough supplements to make your head spin and empty your wallet. And often they are selling those supplements. As far as the offer to write a review and get a bonus - I planned to write a review anyway, so the bonus is just that, but she also states clearly that it does not need to be a 5-star to qualify (no criteria except write one). It may clutter up the reviews to do it that way, but it's at least people who've bought the book who are writing reviews.

Running Doesn't Suck Quite as Much for Me Now :-)
I was drawn to this little book not because I HATE running, but because of physical limitations that limit my ability to be a "true" runner. I've battled my weight from the womb, and it's just in the last 12 years or so that I've found my inner athlete. I love to workout and I would actually love to be able to run. However, due to genetics and the weight I carried for so many years, I have had to have 5 reconstructive foot surgeries in the past 6 years. Now that they are all behind me, 7 of my 10 toes are fused. Now think about that...how could you possibll expect to run on fused toes. Well low and behold, I have found that hill running intervals utilizing HIIT principles allows me to get all of the benefits I want without fretting or causing undue harm to my body.Jennifer's clear and concise explanation of EPOC and the process of deep breathing that floods more oxygen into the lungs and blood, causing more free fatty acids to breakdown and be released out of the body made all the sense in the world. It's not about burning fat while exercising, it's about what the body is doing with that adaptive stress response to reduce inflammation in the body for long-term health and sustainable weight reduction. All things considered, the stair running isn't an option for me due to safety concerns, but I'm so glad to have her guidelines for outdoor HIIT running. Can't thank you enough for all of the wonderful tips and tools you're providing in this affordable little books. You rock, Jennifer!!

Fantastic, If You Don't Care About References or Sources
I purchased Running Sucks based on the high reviews and low cost. I figured, worst case scenario, I was only out $3. The work outs she suggests are very effective. But, she hasn't devised any miracle plan, she's just taken the current research and trends in fitness and written a nice little essay for you with workouts broken down in easy to understand language. So, that is great. However, at no point does she reference a single scientific resource, article or study. She makes very grandiose statements and hurdles facts at you left and right with no sources whatsoever. I have a very serious problem with this--hence one star. She is getting her information from somewhere but by not referencing the material she is A) plagiarizing and B) discrediting herself. This is especially clear in the third work-out plan which is named for the actual scientist who did the research and published his work in 1996. I find it sad, really, because this is a very useful little manual and could be a great resource. It just goes against every fiber in my being to plagiarize scientific research for personal gain. All she'd need to do is add a bibliography or a couple of foot notes to be 100% legitimate. Or, even, simply say things like, "In 1996 this guy X found that this method resulted in these things. Here's how you can see those results too.." Unfortunately, she does not do any of those things making her sound advice suspect and the more obscure items seem, simply, silly. It's amazing what a few sources can do to boost the credibility of your product.
