Packaging insures Great Performance
I believe one thing that makes this air conditioner as great as it is, is the unique packaging it came in. Electronic equipment and compressors are not designed to be mishandled, dropped, etc and it's a treat to see the way this was packaged. You have your regular outer box done by the manufacturer , typical straps heavy gauge box with inner styrofoam and then, there's this inner box much more durable than the outer! It's so nice to see this very effective machine in absolute perfect condition. Over the years I have had Frigidaire, LG, and GE but this is my first Whirlpool and it does exactly what it advertises. Very cold air, extremely powerful fan on high yet quiet even on high, true Energy Star based upon a watt meter, simple and easy to install, looks good even for a window unit. great remote with very good range and easy to learn controls, quality materials and well designed components. One thing that sets this apart from other window units is that the two vents at the top that dispense the cold air are independent of one another and a feature I like. One vent can be going straight out at a higher angle while the other vent can be going into a totally different direction and lower or higher. And the led control panel that lights up can be turned off with the remote if it bothers you. The installation instructions are excellent yet somewhat confusing in that some reviewers have stated that this has a "slide out box" but this unit doesn't and the 15,000 BTU model and up do have a slide out which makes installation easier for the more heavy units. This one, when finally taken out of all the wonderful packaging, takes approximately 5 minutes to prepare for then two people to place it in a window. Then it provides all types of hardware to properly secure it in a window. It even comes with the insulated fiberboard to place on the two sides as the slide out sides do not offer much as fas as insulation. I do recommend purchasing "closed cell foam" rolls to fill in any gaps and better seal out the weather and perhaps bugs. Amazon has most any type of weatherproof insulation imaginable for your particular unit. After having other air conditioners shipped and see all the damage to the exterior of the units, I wonder what has been damaged on the inside that I can't readily see.And I wonder how much performance I'm losing because of possible inner damage. I truly believe when one is packaged as this one is, then it seems that it will have a longer life and will always perform is it advertises.

Powerful. Arrived undamaged. Relatively quiet.
Powerful. Arrived undamaged (came very well packed: double boxed with styrofoam insert pieces. Relatively quiet. Just by itself this unit can make our 15 X 23 foot living room comfortably cool, and we do not have well insulated walls (old house). The remote is well made and easy to figure out. Installation was reasonably easy. While substantial, my lets say "near senior citizen" body can still pick this up (carefully) and install it. We brought an external bracket to take the extra weight of the unit's external overhang. We were careful to adjust the install - before finalizing - to make sure it had slight slope for drainage. Once installed it works like a charm and is reasonably decent looking -- for an air conditioner. We already had an 18,500 Kenmore AC unit, but we wanted a backup due to the current record setting heat wave: over 20+ days of 90+ degree Fahrenheit heat in Oregon, Summer 2018). We can now alternate or combine AC unit outputs as needed and now have a backup scenario in case one fails. In this kind of weather, lack of AC could be life threatening. This Whirlpool AC has an EER rating of 12.0 We do notice the increased use of AC on the electic bill but then again, this heat wave has been ridiculous. Beats the alternative. C'est L'vie. This wasn't my first rodeo, I have installed probably 5 or so window ACs in my lifetime. I have enough basic carpentry skills to frame this unit in. See below for my sage advice:NOTE: When installing ** any ** window mount AC: Resist the temptation to let your fingers wrap around the unit and have a chance to accidently touch (damage) the cooling fins on the back! If you need help, get a 2nd person and co-ordinate your lift an position. INSTALL ANY SUPPORT BRACKET FIRST - then position and install the AC. If you are concerned about crime in your area, realize that the AC is a vector (weak point) for access into your house for any determined person with a pry bar. You might consider a thru wall professional install or framing in the air conditioner more solidly to discourage intrusion attempts. Avoid extension cords but if you ** must ** use one (assuming 110Volt unit) then get at least a 14 AWG 3-prong AC cord no longer than 6 feet, like this: https://www.amazon.com/Prime-EC680506L-Conditioner-Appliance-Extension/dp/B0022NH420/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1533977037&sr=8-3&keywords=air+conditioner+extension+cord+6ft&dpID=41xcA5Gt0PL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch Some ACs will void warranty if they find out you use any kind of extension cord. We had electrician put in new circuits for our ACs so we are good. Be safe and with this AC you will be cool. : )
