Is Everyone Really Equal?: An Introduction to Key Concepts in Social Justice Education (Multicultural Education Series)

A Balanced Approach
This was used as the main textbook for my cultural pluralism class last semester, along with a few other books. In comparison to those other books, this one takes a more balanced approach to the topics of prejudice, discrimination, and inequality. It goes pretty in-depth about racism and colonialism, but it doesn't totally focus on that and lose sight of the other forms of discrimination like LGBTQ, gender/sex, etc. Despite my professor's best efforts to continually steer class towards how black people have been oppressed by white people (beating that dead horse at the expense of other marginalized groups), the authors present a very well-rounded book. The class wasn't related to my major, but I did get something productive out of it, largely thanks to this text.

Well preserved book
I bought this book used for a class. The book was well maintained and in great condition. You only know it’s used because there is minor highlighting which is not a distraction and expected. I would buy again from this seller. I would say less than 8% of the book is highlighted. Pages are neat, spine is neat .

Helpful, informative and much appreciated
I have started doing a lot of reading to better my knowledge about the truth in our history, our laws and practices as they have been informed by our past, and looking to see how I can make a difference in my own believes and practices. This is a helpful book that provides good context, it is informative, and a good read. I appreciate the truth telling by the authors. I would encourage others to read this as well.

Worth the read
What to say....of all the books about racism this one gives very compelling examples and explanation with out the condescending tone, angles on politics or personal attacks.

Required textbook for my 300 level course
I teach a 300 level course essentially acting as an introduction to social justice. I LOVE this book and the details Sensoy and DiAngelo go into as far as common statements and rebuttals. This book provides an easy to read introduction into the concepts of socialization, privilege, discrimination, oppression, and the “isms” of social justice. Great for social work, education, and women and gender studies majors 😉Also both authors are female so I get to have the dialogue of why students assumed the textbook authors HAD to be male in their pronoun references in papers.

It's fine.
This book was nice because it put modern concept into comprehensible chapters. Had to use this for a course, but honestly if you are interested in social issues, this is a good introductory read. I did not think it should be an education textbook as the concepts were very general in day to day basis.

A Thousand Thumbs Up
Outstanding book and great second addition. I use it for my 1st year social justice class in the B.Ed program. I consistently asked for feedback with the text and if I should remove it. All agreed I should use it plus they don’t want to sell their copy. That’s a win at the university level.

Canadian Content
This was the required textbook for a Foundations of Education graduate course and it was an excellent resource. It contains Canadian references and examples which were very helpful and relevant. A great into text for exploring issues in social justice.
