Challenging book for evolutionists!
This book provides a clear, concrete, and comprehensive scientific model to examine the validity of a specific creation model. Namely, the Reasons To Believe (RTB) model developed by Dr. Hugh Ross and his team of reasearchers. While many people have been able to identify problems with evolution for years, no one has offered a genuine testable, scientific model in its place until now.In 1961, Princeton physicist Robert Dicke discovered that the existence of life in the universe requires several physical constants to be extremely fine-tuned. This is called the anthropic principle and more recent discoveries have increased the number of variables that had to be precisely correct in order for life as we know it to come into being. The Intelligent Design movement provided a better explanation than evolution for this set of facts, but it offered no comprehensive, testable theory to replace evolution. As a result, there hasn't been an alternative to evolution for scientists to test - until now.The RTB model presented in this book compares the current scientific data on eight different areas of science to see how well it matches with the RTB model and the three other most popular theories for explaining the universe; namely evolution, theistic evolution, and young earth creation.Chapters on these issues form the heart of the book and are entitled, "Putting RTB's model for the Cosmos to the test", "Putting RTB's model for Galaxies, Stars & Planets to the test", "Putting RTB's model for Life's beginning & Extraterrestrial homes to the test", "Putting RTB's model for Life's history to the test", "Putting RTB's model for advanced life to the test", "Putting RTB's model for the origin & history of humanity to the test", "Putting RTB's model to the 'Why' question test."There is also a chapter focussing on predictions the different models make regarding issues that will probably be resolved within the next 5 - 10 years. Dr. Ross' willingness to present this clear and comprehensive model shows a significant step forward from previous "God of the Gaps" models and deserves a serious response from evolutionists who can no longer pretend there are no other plausible explanations for how life as we know it came into being. I would urge everyone concernd about this matter to read this valuable book.

More than the same old culture wars
Very informative and lucid in its style. As my view of origins shifted from the now defunct young earth view years ago, I have gained an appreciation for Hugh Ross and his organization. The old earth proponents, as well as those in the IDM seem to be the only ones who are still willing to look through telescopes and microscopes anymore. Many of the alternatives in young earth and neo-Darwinism seem content to write ideological diatribes and call everyone else poopyheads for not agreeing with them. One of the things that I admire in Ross, Meyer and others who are part of these organizations is the humility and honesty with which they carry out their business. It makes a stark contrast to the intractable hubris of Dawkins, Harris, and their ilk on one end and Hovind, Ham and their group on the other. The former still seem willing to embrace the Socratic method of research, while their opponents use what I call the Sophistic Method: Go where the evidence leads, provided it leads where you want it to. If not, well......so much for the evidence. Once again, this is probably Hugh Ross at his best, putting his view on the table with a willingness to review or rescind it as research provides real answers and not just the narrowly accepted ones that ideology demands.

Very Thought Provoking and Persuasive
I love all of Hugh Ross's books, but this one may be his best yet. He presents a credible, non-offensive way of testing the major creation/evolution models and succeeds in doing so. Great Book!

Clear, fair and free from preconceived dogma!
As in his other writings, in "More Than A Theory," Hugh Ross continues to be clear (even to non-scientists like me), fair, and free from preconceived dogma. He is willing to let the science speak and let the chips fall where the may - that is, where they belong. He then shows with logic and testable scientific methodology just how that science comports with Scripture. Not everyone will agree with Dr. Ross's conclusions, but all of us who are interested in promoting a Biblical world-view and being armed with sufficient facts to make a sound scientific case for God being the creator of all that is, need to study the information so meticulously well presented in "More Than A Theory." And if someone is interested in a dynamic, thoughtful presentation of how the origins of the universe, our planet, and life itself lend themselves to the belief that they spring from the actions of a loving, supernaturally intelligent Creator, and how those actions result in just-right preparations and conditions for humanity to thrive on this little speck in the universe, this is one book you must read. There's no theistic evolution here (nor anything but scientifically sound reinforcement of the view that evolution as a basis for explaining the origin of life simply doesn't work), so anyone looking for support of that view may find this book disappointing. However, rather than just dismissing evolutionary explanations out of hand, or disrespecting those who hold other views of any kind, Dr. Ross explains why he believes those explanations don't work, and offers an astute presentation of the science that shows the best alternative model, that is, a model which offers clear-headed understanding of the why the the universe is the way it is, how old it its, how vast it is, how it works to give birth to planets, stars and galaxies, why our own earth is so unique in the universe, and how (and why, for that matter) we came to be here. I'd think any book that offers that much adventure would be worth reading!

A testable model of creation.
Excellent summary of the testable model of creation developed over the past 30 years by scientists at Reasons to Believe. For anyone who is still questioning whether the Bible is in agreement with modern science this is required reading. Look at the evidence.

Insightful view on the origin of the universe and life
Even if you are not in complete agreement with Hugh Ross’s conclusions, he provides a very convincing argument. This is an astrophysicist offering an interpretation of scientific discoveries, philosophy and the Bible as to the origins of life. It is not an easy read but provides a different view on the universe and the uniqueness of our planet’s life.I highly recommend it for skeptics and Christians.

A Ground Breaking Book
Insightfully and respectfully challenges naturalistic and young-earth models of creation. Fiercely scientific in his approach, yet aimed at the mainstream audience. Ross makes a compelling and rational case that will enhance your appreciation of nature. Bravo!
