Introduction to Mediation, Moderation, and Conditional Process Analysis, Second Edition: A Regression-Based Approach (Methodology in the Social Sciences)

Wonderful Book.
I have used PROCESS 2.16 and now v 3.0. Those are amazingly helpful modules for (SPSS or SAS). I do not have the earlier edition of this book. Today, I read the first chapter on regression. I must say, it’s the single best chapter on statistics I have ever read. I expect it will be a mere review for many people but I found it clearer than anything I’ve ever read on regression, and it walked through everything in a particularly strong build of one point to another, explaining a number of things that I’d either long forgotten or never learned so clearly before. Hayes is clearly a master at teaching statistics. I will write more as I go through the real meat of the book, but my reading so far portends a deep satisfaction with this work. I have not enjoyed reading about stats in a long time because of the very thing Hayes does so well that many others do not. He anticipates what many writers would assume, or more likely, not recognize they are leaving out in the logical build of the points they are teaching.I had first reviewed this with 4 starts instead of 5 merely for the Kindle app version because it’s just a PDF. But I realize that it has to be that way because of the extensive use of diagrams, formulas, and equations. So, I’m over that now.

Valuable guide to an arcane subject
If you Google "partial mediation analysis" you'll quickly realize that there are actually very few definitive resources on the subject, and this book is probably the best. It addresses mediation (in which a cause works through an intermediary to produce an effect) as well as moderation (when two intermediaries interact). Multiple linear regression is similar to this but imagine that the independent variables also interact in a complex way. Social sciences use these techniques to establish basic relationships between the cause(s), a set of intermediate variables arranged in layers and an outcome. Topologically this is similar to a neural network with a single input/output neuron and all the hidden layer neurons can communicate in a web (in any direction). This book is a rare find if you're interested in the field.

If you are in the social sciences, this is one book you need to have on your shelf
If you do any survey or experimental studies, you need to have this book. Its a good introduction to the topic and is a must if you use his Macro.

Must have volume for social scientists
Simply the best source on statistical mediation and moderation. Andrew Hayes is a very clear writer which is much appreciated given the complexity of the issues involved. The second edition provides some important improvements on the first issue. A number of useful models are discussed for the first time.

Five Stars
It is much better than the first edition. Every Ph.D. student in social science should get this book.

Problems to read the book
The book is great, but I have an Ipad version 2 and could not read it through the kindle ... This information should have been highlighted at the time of purchase.

Great gift for PhD students doing quantitative research
If you have a family member who is studying statistics or doing a PhD, surprise them this the second edition of Hayes book. When I bought the first edition, I had to pay for it myself and live off ramen noodles for a few weeks. However, given how much it helped me in my research, I willing ordered the second edition as soon as it was announced. This book is well written and helps explains Hayes PROCESS spss plugin as well. It is coveted by my research assistant who has twice tried to abduct it.

Ist angekommen aber naja
Buch wurde pünktlich und schnell geliefert.Obwohl es ein neues Buch ist, ist es dreckig an der Seite und auf der Frontseite beschädigt.Das ist keine gute Qualität!

Easy to read and easy to process
I used Andrew Hayes' mediated moderation model for my thesis and this book helped me soooo much!

Broken!
The book came to me broken! The spine of the book was not attached to the back of the book (i.e. the back of the book was ripped from the rest of the book).
