Student Of The Year is a Karan Johar film that was released in 2012. It is a film that explores coming-to-age themes, portrayed mainly through the two protagonists playing the role of college kids. This film was directed by Karan Johar, the acclaimed and multitalented Bollywood personality. It stars Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Rishi Kapoor in the leading roles. Student Of The Year turned out to be a major hit in Bollywood and also became one of the few successful films in Bollywood which worked out with no major star cast. The renowned musicians, Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani, are the music directors of this film. This film uses the flashback structure, wherein a majority of the film is shown as something that happened in the past through the eyes of someone living in the present. In the case of this film, the major events of the film begin by the reminiscences of Tanya Israni, Jeet Khurana and Shruthi Pathak as they gather together after a heart attack suffered by Yogindra Vashist, the Dean of St Teresa College. The flashback begins with Rohan Nanda (played by Varun Dhawan), the son of a rich business magnate named Ashok Nanda. Rohan Nanda wishes to win the Student of the Year trophy in his college race so that he can win his father's approval. On the other hand, there is Abhimanyu Singh who is played by Siddharth Malhotra. Also known as Abhi, he comes from a middle-class family and is in St Teresa College on a scholarship. He wants to achieve great heights of success, the first step to which according to him, would be winning the Student of the Year trophy. With the battleground set between these two fierce contestants, the lovely Sharanya Singhania (played by Alia Bhatt) becomes another source of conflict between the two main protagonists. Student Of The Year was released by Eros in DVD format as a single disc. This film has been rated U and features a runtime of 146 minutes. The language spoken in the film is primarily Hindi, while the subtitles are available in English.
