You can’t hide from the inevitable fact you are on a journey that will end, and that you will, someday, die. And, if you’re like most of the others who have participated in this journey, you still have a lot of stuff to do. This book will help. It starts with you accepting responsibility for the final period of your life. Take charge. Start doing the things you really want to do. Decide what you want to occur in the period right before your death, plan the final celebration of your life, make it clear how you want your estate distributed, and, finally, leave a legacy of love. Do these things and you will be at peace. Let your family know how you want to be treated in the last days of your life. Don’t just talk about it; put it all in writing and file it in your Going Away book. If you’re lucky, before you die you’ll be able to say goodbye to those you care about. Just in case life’s end sneaks up on you, leave clear instructions about everything: your end-of-life care, burial or cremation choice, funeral or memorial preferences, the disposition of your possessions, and be sure to leave a letter with your will that leaves no doubt about the love you had for your family and others. It all finally comes down to this: don’t take life too seriously; no one gets out alive. Be a good person. Follow the guidelines in this book. Your survivors will thank you, and you’ll be a legend.
