Great coin counter, however...
This coin counter was great right out of the box, no real setup required. You can alternate between "buckets" that fit under the slots, or tubes, which allow you to place rolls in them, for simultaneous counting and rolling. (No coin rolls are included)We've had a few coin counters over the years, and despite any technological fanciness, they all work basically the same way. The difference with this one is, there's a hopper above the sorting tray which accepts the coins, and the hopper "dumps" a limited amount of coins into the sorter every so often. This works well in theory, but in counting our change, it tended to get hung up on the last few coins in the batch every time. They'd sit in the hopper, waiting for the next trap door, getting jostled around before falling. Not a huge problem, but annoying when you want to finish up. But, still better than our old machine that "choked" when you put too many in at once. The digital interface is pretty nice; it will show you how many of each coin you have, all at once. Our previous model had one small LCD readout that you had to cycle through, and which was powered by a separate battery. You can also set a threshold, so when the number of a certain type of coin is counted, the machine stops receiving them. This is good if you plan on rolling coins and want exact amounts, and don't want to worry about going over.Oddly, this comes with a 3-prong plug, but the motor inside sounds like something you could power with a few AA batteries. So, why the missing star? For one thing, the top with the hopper part seems like it will be a pain to remove, should we need to access the lower, sorting part. This was something we had to do kind of often with our old sorter, and with a mechanical piece attached, I don't want to mess up any wiring if I have to remove it to get at a jammed coin. Which brings me to my next concern. Considering the price point of this device, peeking inside when the hopper drops coins into the sorter, I noticed that the wheel is made of plastic. Given the cost, I feel as if it should at least be metal of SOME sort. It doesn't have to be steel or anything, but plastic wears down over time when you're counting all metal coins. Finally, continuity. I was not necessarily expecting the count to stick when I unplugged the machine, but the simple act of turning it off erases the current coin count. So yes, you have to keep it plugged in and ON all of the time in order to retain your current tally. Again, at the price point, I would expect some kind of button cell battery backup (hey, the Sega Saturn had it in 1994) or some way of maintaining continuity.

Coin sorting cut in half
My kids have been saving their coins and have racked up enough that I thought it was time to count. This coin counter seems to do the job. I like that it would count each individual coins and stop when it reached a certain amount. It sorts if fast for it being a coin counter at home. The accuracy seems pretty legit and I was only off by change when I finally took their coins to the bank.

Convenient coin sorter
This coin sorter is very accurate. I ran the same batch of coins through it three times and it got the same count every time. You can set it so that it sorts the coins into bins or into tubes so you can roll them, but it doesn't come with any coin rolls. It's very accurate, but it does take a while. So if you're busy, you can let it do its thing and then come back to it. Definitely way better than manual sorting! It's also kind of mesmerizing to watch (if you're not busy). One thing to note is that it does not know when it has foreign coins. It sorts the coins by size and anything dime shaped will be with the dimes, quarter shaped with the quarters, etc. That is one of the reasons I use the bins instead of the tubes so I can do a quick check and make sure there are no foreign coins mixed in. All in all, I'm very happy with this sorter.

So far it works great, was a little bigger than i thought but overall gets the job done. Great investment and makes getting the coins counted and rolled easy. Great buy for the money.
