Nephew loved it
My nephew is into creepy stuff and Greek mythology so I thought this would be perfect. It’s definitely a super creepy book and might not be for every kid, but those who like this stuff will love it. The artwork is really cool and well-done.

Fun for browsing and learning
The book depicts several monsters from Japanese Folklore but also provides detailed descriptions of the creatures. Tsuchi-Gumo the ground spider is the most terrifying (appearance-wise) in my opinion. It's a great form of entertainment. I would buy this book for a teenager or anyone interested in Japanese mythology or legends.

Fascinating and a new perspective on another country’s folklore.
I am mentally enjoyed this book. Not only was the illustrations inside captivating but they also helped illustrate what the author was trying to describe with each of these creatures and monsters. This isn’t particularly scary, but mostly something that I appreciate learning about from another country. This is well put together and I’m looking forward to volume two.

Interesting dive into Japanese Folklore.
Interesting dive into Japanese Folklore. This book gives a terrific history of the monsters from another culture. One of my favorite stories as a child was The Funny Little Woman Book by Arlene Mosel, in which the woman lose a dumpling which rolls under ground and is taken by the wicked three-eyed oni. This expands on the same kind of awesome and creative storytelling. Love it!

Amazing Stories and Illustrations!
My younger daughter is obsessed with everything Japan, and she especially loves all the Studio Ghibli books with the mythical stories. This book had excellent explanations of many of these folklore creatures I've seen mentioned in other stories, and great images also!

Amazing art and lots of great info!
The illustrations in the book are really great - some are very spooky! Each creature comes with info about its place in Japanese folklore, and traditional stories where the creature plays a part. Really great find for learning more about Yokai!

All art and text is AI-generated, illustrator doesn’t exist.
This is a terrible quality Ai product. I brought this gift for a savvy computer science student who noticed immediately, quite embarrassing…The human faces are blurred or uncomfortable and the fingers on every hand are always different. The illustrator doesn’t exist either.Poor quality, fake and inauthentic to Japanese culture (the pictures don’t even match with the Yokai described)
