Great book for my class
I have had to buy textbooks before since some classes didn’t provide a free one and of all the ones that cost money, this was by far the cheapest. In addition to a good price, the book is pretty easy to read. I have ADHD so when there’s big paragraphs of text it can be difficult to read since it comes off as a giant blob. Will 100% allow you to pass the class and give the direct answers you need for tests and assignments. You can’t just skim over it but you dont have to read absolutely everything either. It also gives you activities in the after chapters that give great examples of what to do on the assignments. If your class does have differences, or even if you aren’t in college, its a good read and easy to take in the knowledge it feeds you.

essential reference, teaches & organizes html/css concepts
Have a long history with HTML as well as CMS (like WordPress). Have been using on-line sources such as w3schools and others. However, a book like this is necessary as it organizes all those tidbits of html and css that one picks up online. It is a stand alone reference and you don't need to go to those online references to learn html and you can do it completely from this book. However it's very difficult to do things completely online as you just end up with many clips you put in a loose leaf book. Also it shows the latest methods in flexbox, floating columns, lists &etc. It's organized around building a website using HTML5 and CSS3 with each chapter dealing with different design concepts. Then the last 30% of the book deals with pick & choose advanced topics.A really necessary guide for anyone using html to develop & support websites. Also the book is nicely printed on clean white paper in a nice easy to read font. Complete with many B&W illustrations. I bought several books on HTML & CMS (not css) during this time and returned the other ones. A disclaimer: the colored index tabs are my own, added after purchase.

5 star tutorial, 3 star reference
The writing and exposition in this book is unusually good, and the formatting (text on the left, examples and pictures on the right) works very well. The book is a joy to read, and the concepts they cover, they cover very clearly. This book is excellent for someone first learning HTML or CSS, and it covers how to combine the basic concepts to build the most common things one will want to put on a web site, such as multi-tier menus. The coverage is not really adequate for a working professional (or someone aspiring to be). For example, the "display" property is not adequately described, and the flexible box model is not covered at all. For responsive menus, they punt the design to an external jquery library: fine for getting a tiny web site off the ground, but not going to help you understand how an existing company did it in-house. I think if you combine this book with Gasston's CSS3 book, you'd have a winning combination which collectively cover what you need to know.

Great book, great company.
Before I bought the book, I had learned some HTML5 and CSS3 from free tutorial sites. This book supercharged my skills and taught me plenty I did not know. I am now much better at getting the page layout I want, making it look the same across browsers, and getting my site to look and function correctly on different devices.Whenever I had a question or encountered an error, either in the book or its companion files, the Murach family has been very helpful to me. I have conversed with Joel Murach in particular a number of times via e-mail. He handles feedback with enthusiasm and has a good sense of humor. You do need to download the companion files from the Murach site to get the most out of the book. But that's a small price to pay for what you'll get out of it.I ended up purchasing a number of Murach books, and my experience has been excellent each time.

A very useful textbook when creating my first web portfolio
I've referred to this book many times when I needed help creating my web portfolio from scratch. I've also used a bit of bootstrap to help quickly design layouts for certain sections of the web page. Unfortunately, this edition doesn't include any information about the CSS flexible box layout or flexbox, which I found immensely useful when creating a responsive web page, but the 5th edition does include information about it. I eventually found out about this feature and wish I would've known sooner. Overall, this is a really useful book that provides tools and exercises that can help anyone create their own website from start to finish.

Extremely indepth
Extremely indepth all 682 pages! Murach put a lot of thought and effort into making such a through guide. It didn't work out for me as a study guide (I learn very slowly with severe LD) as it's also quite difficult. It would be good for a college student. I'm now just using it for a reference. I use the TOC for concepts and the index to look up specific things I know the word for. It is very useful as a reference. To learn, need a tutor mostly, then w3schools and now Khan Academy from time to time.

Murach's Html5 and css3 review
Murach seems to have it all together. They teach much of the subject, stay on the subject, and treat it well as well as include everything you need to be able to use the learning to accomplish something. Well done. After going through chapter 6, I am now a firm believer that even though Murach books are a little more expensive, the price is worth it. It's Not about cost, it's about Quality materials. Murach's books are high quality teaching material. Therefore, I'm now willing to pay the price, because of the thoroughness Murach takes to ensure every book has the quality in it he claims. Excellent learning books.
