Be Careful
Seems to cut well. Very sharp. I cut myself opening the damn tight packaging! Went to Urgent Care. On Thanksgiving one of my sons cut himself handling the large knife. A first time for us both in our lives. Use with extreme caution.Beautiful set though.

Great as a birthday or wedding gift.
If you're looking for a knife set that punches way above its price point, this is it! The one-piece design looks super sleek, and these things come crazy sharp - they slice through everything. The bigger knives feel perfectly balanced thanks to their weighted handles, while the smaller ones are nice and light. Sure, you'll have to hand wash them (but let's be honest, you should be doing that with good knives anyway), and the knife block feels a bit cheap, but don't let that stop you. For what you're paying, especially if you catch them on sale, these knives are an absolute steal.

incredible for the price
This is a very nice knife set. The knives appear to be one piece (both blade and handle). I don't see any connection points on them. These knives are incredibly sharp. Using an Edge-On-Up sharpness tester I got a Bess score of 90 for one of the steak knives and 75 for the chef's knife. According to the Bess score chart, a utility razor blade is in the range of 150 to 200. New high end cutlery is 250 to 375. The question is, how long will they retain their edge. I did not see anything on the website giving the Rockwell hardness level. They claim these are excellent at edge retention, though. The edge bevels all look very uniform in width. In terms of weight, these are very light for the smaller knives. Weights (in grams) are as follows: steak - 62.4, paring - 54.5, utility - 66. Then the larger knives have weighted handles so they are perfectly balanced (I can balance them on my finger right at the end of the handle just before the blade). Chef - 200, santokou 201, serrated 180, boning 138.So, you need to be really careful when using these. They are light and extremely sharp. You can cut yourself and not know it until you see the blood. The weight of the larger knives is a very comfortable level, making it easy to work with them for longer periods. The block is very nice as well. It is real wood and has a nice finish to it. It also is large enough to hold everything, but not so large as to seem like a monster on the counter.Treat these knives well, and they should take care of you for a long time. Always wash by hand and dry by towel right after use.

WOW these are sharp!
I typically have just used the cheapo store brand knife sets. They have worked for me over the years with out any issues. I decided I wanted something a little nicer. I really liked the look of these and the one piece design. WOW was I pleasantly surprised at how sharp these knives are! The first time I cut into a piece of steak and it was like a hot knife through butter! They feel nice in the hand and the ergonomics of the knife are nice. The only issue I can see some people might not like is that these are hand wash and hand dry only. Other than that these I feel like are a super bargain with the coupons I have seen lately.

Excellent knives, though the block is a bit light, and they're not dishwasher safe
I'll get the negatives out of the way first - these knives aren't dishwasher safe. Now, to be fair, most high quality knives are not dishwasher safe. The harsh detergents, banging on other objects, and so on just aren't kind to delicate and sharp knife edges. So, if you think you might get a bit "lazy" and toss these in the machine, you may end up a bit disappointed in their performance after. Also, the block itself is a bit lightweight. Again, not a big deal at all, and I don't even really think it's a drawback, but it's something that caught my attention as I unpacked them, and you may notice it as well.Okay... that all aside, if you're looking for a well rounded set of knives, I think this is an excellent choice.Right out of the box, every single one of them had a remarkably sharp edge. Slicing tomatoes, gliding through hardboiled eggs, trimming meat and fish.. everything I've tried them so far, they've excelled at.They also have a single piece design (no juncture between blade/tang and handle), so that bodes well for long term durability, and reduces places for bacteria to "hide".The included variety, as well, is useful - steak knives, a paring knife, chefs knife, serrated bread, etc. Aside from perhaps some esoteric and uncommonly used varieties, you're likely to find what you need here for most cooking tasks.Lastly, they feel well weighted and balanced, but between the blade and handle, and in terms of "maneuvering" them around food.I think the vast majority of cooks, me among them, would be very happy to own and use this set.

Sharp and Well Made Knife Set!
A very well made set of kitchen knives. The knives are solid one piece tangs, an excellent construction method and one that is known to last. The craftsmanship of the knives is very good, with an good balance in hand and sharp edges , they cut thru most anything with ease. A good looking and heavy block come with the set, keeping everything in place and right at hand for easy use. The built in sharpener in the block works well to keep a good edge on all the blades. They dop wash well in the dishwasher being all metal there is no fear of ruining a wood handle.
