a great little book
Okay, I have to admit I was amazed that there are so many truffle species in the US. I've been hunting mushrooms for decades; but it never really dawned on me to dig around for truffles. I did find and eat some truffles when I planted pine trees in northern Alabama years ago; but never gave them much more thought. I'll add a small rake to the equipment I lug around on my forays in the woods this year. I thank the authours for opening up a new passion for me. I especially like the attention to the spore colours and shapes. This is the book to get if you're interested in these little gems

Only three pages of interest to me
Most of this book is about false truffles, I live in the northwest and only three or four of the truffles of cullinary interest from my area are in this book, however I found it to be an interesting book to look through, and the info I wanted was mostly there.

This is truly a wonderful book to identify fungi
This is truly a wonderful book to identify fungi. The photos are excellent at helping to identify mushrooms that are edible and those which are not.

Truffle hunting
A wonderful little book! I have always believed that there must be edible truffles elsewhere than in the Perigord, and this book shows that there is an abundance of species, a lot of them edible. You just have to know where to look! Fascinating! Clear information on identification and edibility. And what applies to North America can be applied to Northern Europe.I so regret my old poodle, Tilly, who could sniff out a hidden toy anywhere in the house or garden, even up a tree; she would have been an excellent truffle hunter. However, even a normal dog nose should be able to help. Apparently, some can even be scented down by humans.. Add a new dimension to country walks! And if you are the lucky owner of a pig, what are you waiting for??!
