YI-M1 Camera Review.
I don't like writing reviews however I feel this product really needs some help. From doing research I figured out that most bad reviews were from the old firmware update which held this camera back.Images included were Shot with the YI-M1 Micro Four Thirds Mirrorless Camera. (Image Sensor: 20MP Sony IMX269) using the 42.5mm YI Prime lens. Except for the images of the camera which were taken with my phone.Package delivered in excellent condition the camera and it's accessories were in excellent condition upon arrival.Testing out the camera everything worked good the camera is shipped with the latest firmware already installed (v3.0) I tested out almost all the funcrions of the YI m1 camera I'm very pleased with its performance. Both 12-40mm & 42.5mm lenses worked flawlessly. The prime lens quality is excellent. The 42.5mm prime lens has a switch on the side of the barrel; it has a "Normal mode" & Macro mode switch. Keep in mind there is no manual focus on the prime lens hower under the settings just go to the focus option and enable manual focus. You may also enable manual focus with focus-peaking, it works pretty good. The focus buttons will show up on the touch screen once you exit the menu. (Only when yi prime lens is in use) The 12-40mm lens has a manual focus ring but you must enable the manual focus under settings menu to activate it. When it comes to auto focus it really struggles in low light conditions, however in day time auto focus works pretty well. According to a YouTube video I saw. There is a fix for the auto focus; you must get a different lens like a panasonic, Olympus or some other good micro four thirds lens and it will fix the auto focus "hunting" problem especially in low light. Then you will have a fast and reliable auto focus. I must say this camera is excellent it works good with no problems however the lens holds it back a bit primarily on auto focus maybe YI can release a firmware update to fix this problem otherwise your best bet is to use manual focus in low light or get a better lens for your YI micro four thirds camera. When it comes to controls and menus it may take a while to get use to especially if you come from a different camera most of all the controls on the YI M1 is touch based. The camera has a 3 inch capacitive touch screen that is fixed on the camera body. I must say the Operating system has a bit of a delay about (0.5seconds) when operating through the touch screen (looking through photos or scrolling through the menu) feels like I'm using android 2.3 lol. However all and all for less than $300 the YI-m1 camera is awesome and I can't complain. The camera is excellent and the battery life is very good and I must say the camera is micro USB recharble you may charge and use the camera at the same time! Something that my SONY a6000 couldn't do. If you want to make any upgrades upgrade to a higher quality lens. This will camera will impress. By the way I came from the SONY A6000 which has an APS-C Image Sensor and I must say there is no huge performance difference on either camera. Both cameras are almost equally the same.

Nice for the price, compact & capable of taking good photos. auto focus system needs improving.
Loved the size and the ease of use of the Y1 M1 Micro 4/3 camera. The camera features the Sony’s 4K 20 mega pixel sensor which is usually found on much more expensive cameras. The lens set covers a great combination of focal lengths. All in all, I liked the camera but I couldn’t get past some of the issues with the automatic focus system. I did upgrade the firmware as was suggested but was still having problems at times with the auto focus.

Disappointed with the packaging, pairing with iOS fail, other features yet to explore
When open the package, I noticed a lot of 'black dust'. This may be come from the packaging sponge. This is really unacceptable for an interchange lens camera. Photographers will make every possible effort to avoid dust.Try to connect with iPhone but fail. As a programmer, I understand the cause of problem. Mainly due to bad app design. Can connect to Android phone. The camera is charging. More test after fully charge.Update after 2 days testing1. Firmware update thru app failServer error! Manually downloaded latest firmware and updated to V3.22. White body strained under normal useAs shown in the photo. Cannot be cleaned.3. Auto focus in elementary stageTested with the 2 kit lens and other 2 auto focus lens. It just like five to six years ago products.4. No night shot modeThere is no night shot mode. Using auto mode will over exposure. Force to use P, A, S or M mode and tune EV manually. Also, EV adjustment is not allowed in Auto mode. I understand it is a design choice. Such as most Canon camera do the same. Personally I more prefer to have EV control in Auto mode. Just like most Panasonic and Nikon cam.5. Not yet found the way to magnify to assist manual focusingOne of the reasons to purchase this product is to work with manual lens. It's fine with toy lens and short focus lens that accurate focusing is NOT required. But with long focal length and large aperture lens, focusing is really painful without magnification. May be a way to do that but can't find yet.6. Raw NOT readable by MacMore update later

YI M1 4K 20 MP Mirrorless Digital Camera with Interchangeable Lens 12-40mm F3.5-5.6 Lens
Is a very decent camera, you can buy additional lenses brands and Flash too it will work with the camera, you might need to more advance camera to adjust new lenses to get clear pictures. Flash hot shoe work great, it needs to a SONY Brand Flash. Once again need to know advance camera user to be to adjust the flash because too much flash you will get white pictures. New lenses needs to Micro 4/3 to work. No power zoom, it is all manual. I have bought manual lenses to get more zoom.

Good camera, once you update its firmware.
I got the silver 2-lens version, and it's not a bad camera. The most important thing to know about it is to update the firmware to the newest version, 3.1, from last December. That corrects about 95% of the issues that plagued it since its introduction, and really makes it a viable camera. It's easy, and done from the phone app.The only thing that now keeps it from a 5-star rating is the 4K crop. Taking a Micro four thirds sensor, and cropping it even more for the 4K video really reduces its capabilities.Otherwise, it does everything it's supposed to, and well. Sad that Yi have since discontinued it, because it was just hitting its stride, and I use it when I don't want to tote around my Canon 5DIII- for a walkabout shooter, it's excellent.
