Structural Systems: ARE Sample Problems and Practice Exam, 2nd Ed (Architect Registration Exam)

okay, it's kind of expensive, but it worked pretty well for me, and I passed the first time (ARE 4.0, Struct. Systems). I was only getting about 70% right on these practice quetsions, btw- so I would say they are hard enough. They are more math-intensive than the actual exam, I would say.has to be used with this book: http://www.amazon.com/Review-Manual-Architect-Registration-Exam/dp/1591261201I told myself I would just by the SS Sample Problems, then wing it after that, but once I took the exam I changed my mind. I'll probably buy most of these. The exams are tough and these problems help find your weaknesses.

the exam seemed to be less in depth than the questions asked in the book. In general it was thorough. I used this for about two weeks, took the exam and passed. There are a few typos throughout the book which were big time waisters but in the end, not to bad.

The textbook is good and the reference materail very consized and well simplified to study. The references to the IBC code are minimum and in general the book seems to be overprized for the content and number of pages. It would be good to make it more affordable and include more specific tables and graphics from IBC, that is the least you would expect for the advertised reference to IBC.

This supplemental study guide provides additional practice problems, when used in conjunction with the primary guide, but its author often contradicts the primary guide. For example, the recommended approach to the exam's vignette is opposite that of the primary guide book. The quality of the writing is poor with many examples of improper word usage, missing words, and a general lack of copy-editing. Not worth the money.
