Excellent general instructions on how to make a bargello quilt. And explicit individual instructions for each quilt. I would highly recommend especially for first timers. I enjoyed helping a student make this quilt and now am making one for myself.

This is a wonderful book for beginner and intermediate quilters, who would like to learn to make small bargello quilts. The author gives directions for making bargello quilts from"jelly rolls" (coordinated rolls of 2.5" fabric strips). Because of the nature and size of jelly rolls, the largest quilt that one can make from the patterns in this book is a lap size (40" X 60"). In this book, there are patterns and color-selection ideas for: 12 wall hanging/baby-size quilts, 3 lap quilts, 2 table runners, 2 place mats, 2 pillows, and 1 tote bag. I was curious about how difficult this type of quilt would be. I was pleasantly surprised after reading the instructions and finding out it's completely doable and fun!

I have made a few bargello quilts before, but not for many years. Meanwhile, I've been collecting all these luscious jelly rolls that cried out to be made into something, anything. I've already made 2 of the quilts in the book, with plans to make a few more, so I'm very pleased with the purchase. This is an easy, accessible introduction to bargello quilts. All the patterns require only a 10 or 20 piece strip set, easily mastered by even a beginner. They can be completed in a day or two, especially when you've nothing else to do. ;-) In fact, it's better to do them in one or two long sittings so you can get into the "rhythm" of the pattern and are therefore less likely to make a mistake. Highly recommended.

This is a fun thing (jelly roll) I might try sometime. I thought the instructions were not as good as the grid type, but I like the fact that the projects were relatively simple/small. But I didn’t understand the placemats how do you make them? There are instructions for the table runner but no placemat instructions !!
