An Introduction to Geotechnical Engineer

I got the softcover version. You do have to be a little careful handling it: I bent the book in my backpack and now the cover has this long white fold line on it, but that's my fault. The text is very small, and everything is in black and white, rather plain. I think the charts and the tables are the best part. The explanations and sample examples are not very separated, so it was a little hard to read at times. Overall, it got me through my undergrad soil mechanics class.

I used the first edition of this book 30+ years ago. The second edition is a complete rewrite incorporating developments of the intervening decades. This new edition is a must have for any practicing Civil Engineer’s Library.

Seriously though, the warning is in bold and written in several places, which I didn’t realize until after purchase. Does this affect the validity of the information in the book as a general reference? For example, are there standards referenced in the text that only apply to India and shouldn’t be used elsewhere? Or is it just a publishing thing?

The book is very good and with easy explanations. The package arrived in perfect conditions

Sebbene sia datato, questo libro rappresenta un ottimo testo per comprendere cosa sia la geotecnica di base. Lo ritengo molto valido per un corso universitario poiché spiega i concetti in maniera molto chiara. Manca la parte sulla modellazione e sulle applicazioni, da integrare con altri testi.

Whether you are a student, practitioner, or a researcher, does not matter, you must have this book. This book will mesmerise you. a superb book on geotechnical engineering. Once you start reading, you will start loving the subject.

Paper quality is so bad.

I think this is one of the best reads for someone studying the subject for the first time. Examples and illustrations makes it fun to read.
